Noooo. You don't understand. The Zionism that I have in my head is pure and just and noble, and when you criticise actually existing Zionism (that is the cause of an ongoing, live-streamed genocide), that makes me feel really sad and personally attacked!

I think what rankles here is that second part. Because to my recollection basically no mainstream politician has substantially challenged the Israeli government. Which is why the pressure is building across the political spectrum and leading to these gestures.

I also want to add the talk of "self determination" is always wheels out without context as if it's some sort of moral right. E.g. let's take the UK, if I talk about the indigenous English right to self determination, you know exactly what the fuck I'm talking about and it's not good is it?

As ever with Freedland, the purpose of the exercise is to cast Israel as a historic exception rather than as a late example of colonial settlement and racist governance. This goes beyond invoking the Holocaust to equating all Jews with Israel and anti-Zionism with antisemitism.

As I said early on about Keir Starmer: a British politician’s job is not to represent your interests to e.g. the private water company. His job is to come *to you*, look suitably biscuit-arsed, and then explain that sadly nothing can be done. And usually retire to a plush private sector gig.
Watson won't be alone. He will join more than 30 former UK officials at a company that Peter Mandelson's former lobbying firm, Global Counsel, counted as a client. Mandelson accompanied Keir Starmer to Palantir's Washington office in 2025, while still retaining a stake in Global Counsel. The MoD has since signed a major partnership with Palantir. And none of this will have broken a single law. The rules on jobs for former ministers last only two years and have no legal force. Therein lies the problem.
Whether it's Tony Blair and his relationship with Oracle, Mandelson and Global Counsel or Nick Clegg and his time at Meta, the section of the political class meant to oppose vested interests and promote public service appears to have switched sides.

The research found 72% of all £1m-plus donations from individuals since records began in 2001 had come since 2019. Sadly, none of this can be described as an aberration. Rather, it's how the system increasingly works. Now politicians' proximity to wealth and the "elites" who own it has fostered a growing public mistrust. One need only listen to Danny Dyer at a rally last week, calling for public ownership of water, to get a feel for that sentiment. These examples are all symptoms of the growing proximity between political power and the wealth it is supposed to hold to account.

This is the reason Labour's MPs went to war against their own leader between 2015 and 2020. It was to preserve this system. All the reasons they gave publicly were lies: it was, and is, about preserving this system of corporate patronage, which they personally benefit from.

It’s important to understand that this isn’t a double standard, one rule for greenies and fascists. It shows that *there are no standards, and there are no rules*. British politics is mostly real only in the same way that Widow Twanky is in some scary woods, and there’s a ghost behind her.

Robert Kraft — who's given millions to pro-Israel orgs like AIPAC — once got a $1M award from Netanyahu for helping stop people from boycotting Israel. "Israel does not have a more loyal friend than Robert Kraft," Netanyahu said. Now, Kraft helps kick Macklemore off Ed Sheeran's tour:
Robert Kraft to Establish a Foundation to Combat Anti-Semitism, BDS, Delegitimization of Israel
Jun 20, 2019 at 03:25 PM
June 20, 2019, Jerusalem - Tonight, the Laureate of the 2019 Genesis Prize Robert Kraft was honored at a gala ceremony in Jerusalem. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Genesis Prize Foundation Chairman Stan Polovets bestowed the award on Kraft in front of an audience of 600 Israeli and international dignitaries.
The $1 million Genesis Prize, dubbed "the Jewish Nobel" by Time Magazine, honors extraordinary individuals for outstanding professional achievement, contribution to humanity, and commitment to Jewish values. Previous honorees include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg; philanthropist and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg; actor, producer and peace activist Michael Douglas; and "Fiddler to the world" maestro Itzhak Perlman.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said: "I am delighted to welcome Robert Kraft to the august family of Genesis Prize Laureates. This prestigious award honors Robert's generous lifelong philanthropy, his commitment to the Jewish people, and his love for Israel. It also recognizes his principled stand against anti-Semitism and efforts by our enemies to undermine the State of Israel through BDS and other similar campaigns. Israel does not have a more loyal friend than Robert Kraft."
Kraft previously announced he would forgo the $1 million monetary award so that the funds could be granted to initiatives combating anti-Semitism, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS), and other efforts to delegitimize Israel. This is in line with the tradition established by previous Genesis Prize Laureates, who have "re-gifted" their awards to philanthropic causes they support.

People always come at me because of Marx. And sure, I’ve read Marx, and many other Marxists, socialists and communists - it’s called educating oneself about history - but those are books. Books teach you theory, life under capitalism teaches you Marxism and praxis is when you put it into practice.
All my homies know this already.
•
You don't learn Communism from Marx. You learn it from hunger, from being beaten by a cop for not paying a bribe, from being falsely arrested for your caste or religion, from being told not to cry when asked to work 18 hour days.
Marx simply explains why that happens.

There's an instructive lesson on how UK political journalism actually functions here, nestled between the first excerpt, and the convenient timing of this bombshell report on the Mandelson-McSweeney[-Starmer] alliance, for anybody with the cognitive capacity to put two and two together.
On 19 June – two weeks and two days before the general election – around 200 Guardian journalists crammed into a conference room in King’s Place to practise this custom. Except, the meeting was quite exceptional. Chaired by chief leader writer Randeep Ramesh, the endorsement meeting saw the paper’s most senior journalists – not only its columnists, but several of its lobby reporters – argue forcefully that the Guardian should back Starmer to the hilt or risk damaging their reputation not only with readers but also with the incoming government, much to the dismay of several of the paper’s younger journalists and journalists of colour.Analysis
