As I was saying: This is pretty well what you're up against in electoral politics. You cannot rationally oppose this bollocks, in fact you aren't meant to, it's meant to drag everyone down to roll in the shit and drown them in it.

I do feel that it's been done before, and I'm pretty confident our media will be happy to repeat the process. No doubt it's open season on the greens now and that will 100% fit snugly alongside legitimate concerns.

The New York Times has *four* people bylined on this piece — its chief UK correspondent, national security correspondent, another international correspondent based in London, and a ‘global security’ reporter based in London — and… it’s a soufflé of speculation puffed up through hyperventilating.
An Iranian Threat, 3 Vans and a Phone Call: Behind the Mystery at a U.K. Air Base
A mysterious call last Sunday near a military base used by the U.S. set in motion a huge counterterrorism response and days of uncertainty in Britain.

is settler-colonialist ethnonationalism racist? hard to say. is the slaughter in gaza a genocide? there is some debate. however, antisemitism was, oddly, extremely easy to arrive to a unanimous definition of and implement as such in dozens of institutions

While "reducing a contested term down to one thing" might seem compelling as an argument against calling Zionism racism, it does rather rely on at least some significant body of opinion within that ideology not being foaming at the mouth Islamophobes. A standard they've not met ever.

Personally, I think anyone advocating for an ethnostate needs to explain how the racism isn't fundamental to their political position.

The lobby hacks are going to be loudly mystified at this stuff because the only way to understand what’s happening is if you know this system is rigged, malignant and shit, and that it can only keep going like this due to the balls-deep complicity of the British press.

What did Ta Nehisi Coates say? He said: people who do not draw a line at genocide, will not draw a line at democracy. And the British political/media class already demonstrated they will gladly fuck everyone and wreck everything if pushed, when they forcefully shoved Boris Johnson into Number Ten.

Why are we even asking whether this project is racist, as we enter *year four* of undisguised genocide, while Israel’s leadership class keep telling journos that Britain is a dark Bolshevo-Muslim nightmare led by Islamocommunist extremists? *Of course* it is extremely racist, undeniably so.

To be honest, this is exactly the kind of egotistical know-nothing I'd expect rightwing politics to deliver. And Kemi isn't even the stupidest, most destructive iteration of ego, there's always more barrel to scrape.

It's particularly obvious when you try to port this worldview onto any national category which doesn't have an arbitrary, secondary catch-all. What would the Irish equivalent of this even mean? "You're not Irish, of course, but we'll let you call yourself Hibernian if you like"?

A small example of how Labour Conference works- the "Transport Reception " with the Secretary of State isnt held by Transport Unions, its funded by Amey , a privatiser "named and shamed" for breaking minimum wage laws this year. The "shame" doesn't stop Ministers doing their gigs.

Means testing is just wedge used to turn the obviously outrageous "should we have this social net at all" into "who deserves this social net?". Every edge case is then used as an argument to diminish provision until it's gone. Cynically using people's sense of fairness to fuck everyone over.

As Naadir notes: this doesn’t mean that the far right has moderated. It means that the centrists have radicalised themselves and each other over years into the politics of the National Front circa 1974. Nice and gradual like, so they don’t feel too awkward about it. But that’s what’s happened here.
Why Europe's centre will hold
The 1930s are not a good guide to the politics of the 21st centuryThe Italian left points to Meloni's harsher policies on immigration and asylum as indications that she retains far-right instincts. But almost all European governments are now searching for ways to limit the flow of asylum seekers.
This is a response to growing voter unease - so arguably an expression of democracy rather than its negation.
Le Pen has been moderating her party's image for many years - shedding many of its more extreme policies and associations. In the process, she has broken with her own father, the founder of the party, and ditched plans to leave the European single currency.

He tells a Fabian fringe event: "I am - for the first time since I was probably about 15 years old - not running to be leader of the Labour party, and it's quite a liberating position to be in."
Asked if that's the case "for now", the defence secretary says: "That ship has sailed."

I'll also note that keeping this up will end in dark places. You cannot go on ignoring or encouraging the worst human instincts with no consequence. As we're seeing with fascism in the UK, but also if the reaction blows the other way we have no compassion and we'll be asking for none.

It's always this kind of bollocks. Let's set aside that you can draw a straight line to Draconian authoritarianism at home, or that our government is doing fuck all about local issues and just point to the fact British citizens do not like or support what is happening and that is sufficient.
