In this sense, you are paying just as much for the service, as you are for the product. A good tailor will gently decline your bad ideas and guide you towards better ones. I'm reminded of this essay by Graydon Carter about his experience at Anderson & Sheppard.

The withdrawal of Afghanistan was botched, but it wasn't Donahue's fault (and ugh to having to defend a General and an Airborne unit). The 82nd went in to Kabul in the middle of chaos to secure the airport and did about the best they could given the circumstances.

Genuinely hadn't occurred to me before reading this, but that's why journalists are banging the "Bluesky is an echo chamber" drum, right? They can't use this platform for scraping news stories. Not only is there no outrage farming, but the nuclear block also limits their ability to follow discourse.

I assume that’s a feature, not a bug. People using the wrong restroom for their gender presentation will result in hysteria, violence, and chaos, which can then be used further to demonize trans people and further restrict them. Exactly what Nancy Mace wants.

A thing I’ve started saying to kick off every media interview: “The question is not ‘will they do mass deportation y/n.’ It’s not a defined term and it’s not a binary. The question is: how far can they go, and how far will they go?”

CNN's Dana Bash says she doesn't know "what side of the aisle" the neo-Nazis who marched in Columbus this weekend were on. Maybe this undated photo of Anthony Altick, founder of the neo-Nazi group in question, will help her figure it out.
Photograph shows a white man from the shoulders up. He has a light brown patchy beard and is wearing a backwards black ballcap and black T-shirt. Behind him are a crowd of people facing away from him and looking towards a stage. On the stage are two unidentified white men with grey hair and wearing dark slacks and white shirts. Also on stage is former President Donald Trump wearing a dark blue suit, white shirt and red tie. The setting appears to be inside of an area. The off-white metal ceiling and light fixtures can be seen at the top of the photo.
