For my money, real trauma recovery is all about radical self compassion wrapped around radical accountability. Survivors who construct a sustainable recovery are not pretending we "chose" trauma-- nor are we pretending we have zero responsibility for how we feel & function now.

If you grew up in a household where someone’s mood could shift the entire atmosphere of the house, you learned something very specific, very early: other people’s emotions are your problem to manage. Your mother slams a cabinet? You scan your memory for what you did wrong. Your father goes quiet at dinner?
