This tidbit was in the article. 🎈💥 ? "Goldman Sachs warned Friday that AI hyperscalers, including Meta, need to generate roughly $300 billion a year in AI services revenue just to break even on their capital spending—and $1 trillion annually to earn meaningful profits—spooking investors."

Bluesky has got to be the quietest social network I've ever used. I don't get much engagement here, but I always find something interesting, often intellectually engaging, and occasionally something soulful. Unlearning my social media expectations might be the whole ball game.

All we can expect when trying to scale up AI systems is diminishing returns and devastating environmental damage. Calls for `slowing down’ can conveniently hide the diminishing returns, while still convincing people that the tech is “all powerful”.

I agree (and rail against "just a tool" framing all the time). But if people insist, we must ask "for what?". Land mines are a tool for killing children decades after an armed conflict. "AI" is a tool for fraud, for erasing consent, for deflecting liability, for consolidating power.

Air gapping apparently wouldn't work in alignment tests because, I shit you not according to this OpenAI guy, one computer could run the CPU hot and tell the other airgapped one it is in trouble. I wish I could get paid $10m a year to say the stupidest cybersecurity thing you've ever heard
Tweet by Fireside Alpha, which reads:
OpenAI's Noam Brown says air-gapping the computers may not stop a misaligned AI, because two air-gapped machines can still talk by running a CPU hot and reading the temperature change.

There's a picture of a white guy with glasses, looking very concerned, under this text.

I see the NYT is still platforming 'dei crushed white men' bullsh*t. Here it's buried in a 'why rural themed pop culture' is so popular in a piece written by a Princeton grad who lives in New York City. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/13/o...
Today, it’s country music that — for all its commercial success — represents the underdog. As diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives accord advantages to everyone except straight white men; as globalization and an urban, knowledge-based economy have impoverished and emptied out rural communities; and as trust in institutions including higher education and the federal government declines, the culture of rural working-class whites can symbolize an unconstrained way of life that stands apart from the stifling, all-encompassing H.R. bureaucracy that everyone else lives in.

It takes you 20 paragraphs to get to the part of the article where they admit that Mamdani isn't paying the influencers and the reason they are posting videos of the stuff Mamdani is doing is because people are interested in watching it.
The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.

De Weg bij Big Tech tip van deze week: kies een andere zoekmachine dan Google! Want de oprichters van Google begonnen dan wel idealistisch, in 2004 schreven ze nog: "We believe it is very important that the results users get from our search engine are produced with only their interests in mind...
Tekst in deze afbeelding:

Stap over op een andere zoekmachine. Ik gebruik zelf sinds een tijdje zoekmachine Kagi.

Kagi kost 10 euro per maand, en ja, betalen voor search is, geef ik toe, even wennen. Maar zoals ze zelf zeggen: "Our customers pay for a service and we provide them with a service."
