We believe it is very important that the results users get from our search engine are produced with only their interests in mind...

Maar zoals ze zelf zeggen: "Our customers pay for a service and we provide them with a service."

What software do you hate most intensely? I would love to break my (learning management system) Canvas! I explain why in our new CSoC episode, this time on @gavinmueller.bsky.social's Breaking things at work; the book that explains why we should all be more critical of technology!

Podcast alert!!!! Together with Hanna Schraffenberger I am launching the Computer Science Off Course Podcast Today! Computer Science curricula are very very narrow in scope with a lot of math and algorithms, but very little meta science, philosophy or history.

As I was looking up some famous women in CS, I tried to find information on how Grace Hopper was excluded from the 1968 NATO conference on software engineering. Google was... less than helpful, it tried to deny the conference even happened!

Ok this part of the April fool's joke from my uni hits a bit too close to home... 🤣
The first metro will depart on April 1, 2027, provided that the schedule, permit applications, participation events, vibration impact studies, and the astrological alignment of Mercury all align. Until then, we are working hard on optimization, with feedback from students, staff, and *at least three task forces with vague names.*

Here is a fun fact that absolutely cannot be disconnected from the shit we are all in... CS undergrad programs around the world tend to not include a philosophy of science or research methods courses (here is the ACM 2023 Curriculum) For me that is a straight line to Mencius

What is so interesting about so so many AI papers (this is just one example), is that despite their own evidence AI is not really helping students, the conclusion is that a fix is needed so that it will. I keep wondering: what would be a result where people would be like "nah, this just is not it"?

Highlights
• The help-seeking process of learners seeking help from AI is non-linear.
• Learners' help-seeking from human experts is more linear and aligns with theory.
• Learners seeking help from ChatGPT showing pragmatic help-seeking activities.
• Learners seeking help from human experts were more proactive in metacognition.
• Scaffolding is needed to better facilitate learning with AI.
