Painting of a black and white longhair cat looking back at the viewer over his shoulder. Voluminous black inky tail. Dusty pink background and old marble columns in the background. Same painting but now the cat in question is being held up next to it. He is not observant.

Stephen Sondheim introduced his childhood pal Tom Lehrer in 1998 for an exceedingly rare stage performance, part of a tribute to Cameron Mackintosh. (This will always be my favorite Lehrer song. Interestingly, he here changes one word: "squirrel" becomes "sparrow.") www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf-e...

had to excavate and share this passage from The Futurist: The Life and Films of James Cameron
screenshot reads: "...he would shape this one. Later that same night, the effects artist got a phone call from his friend. "I've got it!" Cameron said. "He's a cop!" The form the T-1000 would take for most of the movie was a Los Angeles police officer. This solved the storytelling dilemma Winston had raised and also gave Cameron an opportunity to underline a central theme in both of the Terminator movies--how people, especially those in violent jobs, like soldiers and cops, can become barbarized.
"The Terminator films are not really about the human race getting killed off by future machines. They're about us losing touch with our own humanity and becoming machines, which allows us to kill and brutalize each other," he says. "Cops think of all noncops as less than they are, stupid, weak, and evil. They dehumanize the people they are sworn to protect and desensitize themselves in order to do that job." Cameron's creation of an LAPD villain in his 1990 script eerily predates and is strangely linked to one of the darker moments in the department's history."

Black and white image of Iranian author Marjane Satrapi, smoking a cigarette. "The world is not divided between east and west. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same."

A Parisian street by night; in the background, a shuttered Asian restaurant and a shop with a blue-lit interior. In the foreground, a young woman, in a green jacket and red lipstick, holding a can of Coca-Cola, and a young man in spectacles checking his mobile phone. Both are wearing beanies.

Important to know that the very footage that is appalling all of us--rows of faceless men in riot gear, protestors running, clouds of gas--is what Trump and Miller and the MAGA-sycophant anti-city press have had a collective hard-on for since the campaign. This will be wall-to-wall on Fox all week.>

The good part of AI is that the only thing a writer can do to combat it is to become more human. Make your writing weirder, hornier, more violent, absurd, poetic, difficult, political, jagged, dreamlike, ironic, surreal, alive. You don't have any choice but to plumb the depths.

Tyrants view educated citizens as their greatest enemy. Slaveholders stopped the enslaved from learning to read. Nazis burned books. Dictators censor media. That’s why Trump is attacking education, science, museums, and the arts – to prevent us from learning. It's Fascism 101.

ALL OF THIS! And if you can't write first by hand, change the font style you write in when you get to the editing stage so you 'trick' your brain into having it look new and fresh. Also: good LORD, if you aren't reading drafts aloud, you are doing yourself a major, major disservice.
