Important thread for non-posterity: the best moments from each Children of the Corn movie. Children of the Corn (1984): if you hit a kid in the Nebraska road that you rationalize you don't need to feel too bad about because "he was dead already" be sure to throw the body in the trunk.

Much dunking on this for the main ingredients, but the little spice I appreciate is the Ted Lasso BELIEVE sign. In the show, part of its Live Laugh Love level inspiration is that the team literally had to reach above themselves to touch it, so making sure to put it below eye level is fitting here.

This should be so obvious that it doesn’t need to be said, but given what kind of weekend it’s been on here, apparently it does: If you don’t want old rapists running the world, in office, in the board room, making decisions for all of us get comfortable with “ruining” young rapists’ lives

Look at the absolute fuckery of authors trying to get compensation in the Anthropic suit. When, not if, US media starts deleting vast swathes of archives, it'll give the runaround to fucking *everyone*. It'll take years to figure out.

Yup. I also find it gross to play the "just trying to win <insert state here>" shit because what I'm tired of isn't left right or whatever what I'm tired of is people running for office to follow and not lead. 'I'll go where the wind blows'. I can't vote for that anymore. Principles matter.

Watching tech people tremble before the awesome power of AI feels like when an actor is “attacked” by a wild animal in a movie but they are just holding a raccoon pelt to their neck and pretending to wrestle with it

My favorite Behind the Bastards ad spot recently is for "Skypop Protein Soda" because the script is roughly: "Wait, it's a soda AND has protein?" "Yes!" "AND it has zero sugar?!" "Yes!" "AND it tastes good?!" "...it's Skypop!" The pause is I assume flop sweat glance at legal counsel signaling them.

The real problem of artificial intelligence is that people get one-shotted by their own pareidolia and think that because an algorithm can produce coherent sentences that are occasionally also correct, it must possess a human mind and be capable of performing a variety of intellectual tasks

Obviously Milo is still being insincere here, but it does showcase two eternal truths: 1. Conservatives are unable to understand or believe that the terrible things they advocate for may impact them. 2. Only when the terrible thing happens to them or a loved one can they understand it's bad.

I think it is a reasonable suggestion that anyone still trying to participate in a meeting while on a speakerphone and pretending they don't know why they're echoing should be put on a PIP that involves them being driven through the streets while being horsewhipped.

One of the reasons AI discourse is particularly fraught is that it is pretty useful business SaaS that is also being sold as a consumer good, and forced upon consumers who do not want it, by people who are desperate to be remembered as the next Steve Jobs and have no better ideas

People need to get it: when a candidate has multiple red flags and lies repeatedly, it's not just one scandal. It's many. None of what's out is the scandal I flagged last year; these required new reporting. But even back then, you could see: Platner lies, and his promoters were covering for him. 2/
