In general the culture of this site is a pretty good summary of what happens when you make "loyalty towards a political party" the center of your morality. Even when the political party is, for the most part, non authoritarian and more or less fine, the excesses you tolerate end up being quite bad

In general, the media just uses "the troops" as synecdoche for the war, they were upset at what happened to "the troops" in the Afghanistan withdrawal because they supported the war and were upset it was ending, in this context, "the troops" are not being mistreated, because the operation continues
