its worth asking why posts like this — a purported leftist warning others not to trust elected left-wing politicians — consistently do so well on the site where racist Trump ally Elon Musk controls the algorithm that chooses what posts people see

DoorDash has ripped off more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers. We’re making them pay $131.5 million — the largest worker settlement in City history. This is New York, where hard work pays and greed will cost you.
DoorDash messed up.
They repeatedly left more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers underpaid or paid late, causing them immense stress and financial difficulty.
That's unacceptable.
We've secured a $131.5M settlement from
DoorDash - the largest worker settlement in NYC history and largest delivery worker settlement in
American municipal history.
Every worker will be paid what they are owed, and every company will be forced to abide by the laws of this city.

I’m uncertain about which place we end up in, but any AI outcome will be a crisis: a) it’s a bubble that (like 2008) takes down the economy and creates moral hazard b) it destroys demand for human labor c) it kills us all The US political system isn’t ready to handle any of these

Interesting paper just dropped in the great data center debate and it's not great news. Data centers seem to raise the yields on local govt debt since they have a very low long term multiplier and large perceived externalities on public infrastructure. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

If union density is going to increase, workers will need to use every tool available to them. That includes state and local policy change. The recent crop of pro-worker legislators and executive candidates who just won their primaries this summer will be key partners. My piece in Jacobin below:

The fundraising texts you delete are working on someone. It’s infuriating and heartbreaking. An 85yo in Ohio gave more than double the value of his home. A 91yo in an Indianapolis senior facility gave 25K times. The DCCC/DSCC don’t just tolerate the spammers who exploit seniors. They take part.

l love when a white journalist reporting on “concerns of lack of diversity” in DSA fumbles the name of the Latina elected official he interviews for the article. My name is Moreno, not Morales.
Diana Moreno, who earlier this year won the special election for the New York State Assembly seat Mamdani vacated to move to Gracie Mansion, said non-DSA Democrats should pay attention to how the group is whipping up support. Democrats, she argued, are “out of touch and losing primaries, and with a base that’s deeply angry at their inability or unwillingness to fight against the far right.”

To Moreno, democratic socialism “means healthcare, that means housing, that means childcare. That is the responsibility of government to actually guarantee for its citizens because it’s something that we need to live.”At one of the panels, Morales touted working on a bill she picked up from Mamdani in the New York State Assembly that would strip tax-exempt status from groups that do work deemed detrimental to Palestinians.

At another point, when an Ithaca, New York, council member was recalling being warned about participating in Palestinian solidarity rallies the day after Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, an audience member loudly giggled multiple times.

Regarding a candidate who doesn’t describe the war in Gaza as genocide, Morales told CNN, “I don’t know if I would trust their judgment in other issues, because I think to me it’s blatant and clear that what’s happening in Palestine and has been happening for now years is considered a genocide.”
