As ARWW add in the thread, AF Post has been boosted by Elon, the AZ GOP, and other X obsessives (the same foul waters as those keeping Michael Tracey afloat, though he apparently failed here). And Ali Alexander, of course, was a leading Stop the Steal organizer.

“Tompkins County [DA] Matthew Van Houten said Monday that he felt compelled to answer publicly, explaining in a nine-page statement that Jane Doe’s credibility ‘was never in question,’ but in her initial sworn statement … she ‘did not allege that she was drugged against her will or gang raped.’”

Some legal details here worth highlighting, such as, we are still waiting on a grand jury. “The district attorney’s office will bring the case before a grand jury, he said, and upon indictment it ‘will prosecute the charges zealously and to the fullest extent of the law.’”

What about her future? What about how hard she worked to be there? What is to become of her life now? What process of justice could possibly right these wrongs? And how much more will she lose in the process of trying to get it? How much more of this are we all supposed to tolerate?

I can’t say strongly enough that these are not realistic scenarios for the people I observed and, based on data about family lives, almost anyone else we might consider normal and/or not rich.

I’ve seen several stories of young women describing rape and sexual assault on college campuses in the last week which strikes me not as a rise in assaults but, given the violence of some of the examples, I fear we’re back in an era of headlines about group assaults, for the Tate/Clavicular era

I haven't had anything to add re: Cornell, because I don't think anyone wants to use this space to reckon with the fact that none of these systems are meant to help you, unless you are a university seeking to minimize your legal exposure. It's not fair to ask strangers to reckon with that here.

This week Tennessee plans to execute Christa Pike, a woman who became so infamous at 18, her own defense attorney was planning to write a book about her while failing to adequately represent her at trial. New from me @theintercept.com:

Baddies will destroy liberal order to play chicken with climate disaster. They don’t care about the rest of us. We can build better but the window to get in the fight is closing. We have to stop appealing to moral authority here.

ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.

I don’t have long COVID thankfully but I had undiagnosed POTS my whole life (got diagnosed ~2 years ago now) and my sister has similarly only recently been diagnosed with MCAS after a lifetime of being allergic to everything. We only got our diagnoses bc of the advocacy of people with long COVID.

the whole world does not need to weigh in on what one lesbian bar does in one community. but it will. the bar will become a stand in, a site where impulses to assert ableism, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia will run freely. this is a betrayal of the point of journalism itself
