there's a thing in moderate democratic politics where it is considered fundamentally illegitimate to deliver results to your own voters; instead, you must propose a better way to implement your adversaries' entire ideological program

I’d restate the vibecession puzzle slightly: not just the gap btw macroeconomic conditions and perceptions of the economy, it’s a gap btw (sociotropic) perceptions of the economy and perceptions of one’s own economic conditions. Americans are much more sanguine about their personal conditions!

The problem with seeing AI as an end and not a tool is you completely miss how it fundamentally layers into the way our economy/society is already structured. We don’t have the incentives to use AI for increasing factory productivity. We do for extracting maximum profits out of services.

Yes, and it's ridiculous that people on here think the average person reads a headline like 'OpenAI model goes rogue' and doesn't hold OpenAI responsible, whereas some long-winded, technically-exacting one will rouse them to action.

I heard Navarro's claim about exporting magnets to allies when I worked at DOE, but had never seen it in writing so was hesitant to discuss it. It is absolute BS. Not only are we many years away, we will be producing cost-uncompetitive magnets that cannot be sold to customers outside the US.

“We need more help affording healthcare for our family. Our health insurance tripled this past year and we can barely afford to pay for it plus afford food! We were hoping Trump, with his business sense would figure out a way that every person in the country would have health insurance, the price of food would finally come down, and the price of gas would be at its lowest ever. Instead, we are at war…” – 54-year-old rural voter from Wisconsin, Republican
