How Trump’s “America First” Administration Could Shut U.S. Scientists Out of the Next Nobel-Worthy Discovery
A proposed White House rule would give political appointees unprecedented control over scientific funding. One physicist, who helped discover the Higgs boson, explains how the rule would’ve stifled that breakthrough.

Admirable clarity @science.org
The Trump administration hates academic science funding, full stop. They hate where that money goes, and they hate who it goes to. They want to keep all that money for themselves, to hand out to favored cronies who can help them get elected and to steer yet more money and more power back into their hands.

That’s it. That’s the story

Why Aren’t There More Imax 70mm Screens for ‘The Odyssey’? variety.com/2026/film/ne...
Sources at Imax confirmed to Varietythat many of the parts needed to build these specialized film projectors "simply no longer exist." The original design files were created roughly half a century ago, but as Gelfond alludes to, they were never properly maintained. As a result, Imax no longer has a complete manufacturing blueprint — and much like the lost tribal knowledge of the Apollo-era spacecraft, very few engineers working today fully understand the systems.

🚨 HEADS UP: If you haven't submitted a comment on the OMB proposal yet, the clock is ticking. There are only 20 days left to push back against Russell Vought's attempt to give political appointees unprecedented control over federal research funding. Visit the link in our bio to take action!
Stand Up for Science graphic featuring a large red “20” and the words “Days Left,” emphasizing the countdown to submit comments on the OMB proposal. The headline reads, “Help us stop Vought from destroying American science.” A cutout image of Russell Vought is shown in front of the U.S. Capitol. A torn-paper banner along the bottom says, “Submit a comment on the OMB proposal” and “Link in bio to take action.” The overall design uses bold red and black typography on a textured cream background.
