I don't think this was planned at the time IWTV was written, but in retrospect afforded to the show, Lestat is always struggling to keep from using his godlike powers to alleviate his intense loneliness because he knows it will damage true love. Suffice to say I think he killed him

In the book, Louis's brother drops dead on his doorstep out of nowhere, right after he tells Louis that he wants to be a priest (which is also Lestat's experience!) and Louis laughs at him. I've never seen fan discourse about it but I think it's natural to wonder if it was Lestat somehow

In the source material, Louis's brother dies before Louis meets Lestat, so it doesn't really get brought up. I like that the show spends more time on Paul's death and makes it so ambiguous.
