Posted on LinkedIn by @globalecoguy.bsky.social: Actual versus projected buildout for solar power vs. carbon capture
Two-panel chart comparing actual performance versus modeled projections for two climate technologies, spanning 2010–2040.

Panel 1 — Carbon Capture Capacity (megatons)
Line chart. Y-axis: 0 to 4,000+ megatons. A single dark red line (actual carbon storage) runs nearly flat from 2010 to approximately 2025, remaining well below 500 megatons. Beginning around 2023–2025, a fan of teal/blue projection lines diverges sharply upward, with the highest trajectories reaching approximately 4,000–5,000 megatons by 2040 and the lowest remaining near 500 megatons. Actual performance is far below all but the most conservative projections.

Panel 2 — Solar Power (terawatt-hours)
Line chart. Y-axis: 0 to 2,000+ terawatt-hours. A single dark red line (actual solar electricity production) shows exponential growth from near zero in 2010, rising steeply to approximately 2,000 TWh by 2023–2024. A dense fan of teal/blue projection lines originates around 2023–2025 and extends to 2040, spanning a wide range from approximately 200 to 2,000 TWh. Actual solar production meets or exceeds the upper range of nearly all projections.

Implied contrast: Carbon capture has drastically underperformed projections. Solar power has dramatically outperformed them

Why is there no one in the US government stepping up to stop this insanity? Today in AI: Canada rejected the PR application of a McMaster postdoc from the Sorbonne who works in the immunology of aging because the generative AI being used to process applications (😱) entirely hallucinated her credentials. Everyone involved should be fired. archive.is/ELrCI#select...
Kémy Adé was shocked by the immigration refusal letter she received.
In rejecting her permanent residence application, the Immigration Department cited her current job duties, which included wiring and assembling control circuits, building control and robot panels, programming and troubleshooting. The department said these duties didn’t match the Canadian work experience she claimed.
Well, no, they didn’t. Adé is a post-doctoral research fellow and guest teacher at McMaster University — and those skills are not part of her repertoire. Nor are they what she submitted in her immigration application a year ago.
“I saw this language about this job description that has nothing to do with me,” said the health scientist from France, who has a PhD from Sorbonne University in the immunology of aging. “I was disoriented how this could happen.”
But a disclaimer at the bottom of the refusal letter might provide a hint.
It’s believed to be the first time that the department explicitly referred to the use of generative AI to support application processing in immigration refusals. The disclaimer also noted that all generated content was verified by an officer and that generative AI was not used to make or recommend a decision.

"How does one hate a country, or love one?" Ursula Le Guin always out there expressing my exact feelings in trying times.
“How does one hate a country, or love one? Tibe talks about it; I lack the trick of it. I know people, I know towns, farms, hills and rivers and rocks, I know how the sun at sunset in autumn falls on the side of a certain plowland in the hills; but what is the sense of giving a boundary to all that, of giving it a name and ceasing to love where the name ceases to apply? What is love of one's country; is it hate of one's uncountry? Then it's not a good thing. Is it simply self-love? That's a good thing, but one mustn't make a virtue of it, or a profession... Insofar as I love life, I love the hills of the Domain of Estre, but that sort of love does not have a boundary-line of hate. And beyond that, I am ignorant, I hope.”
