Doubling of a little isn't that much more. Pensioners pay for food, clothes, water, energy, shoes and housing, and pay income tax, VAT and more. Pensioners subsidised the younger generation too. If pensioners are regarded as a burden then that fate awaits future retirees too.

Energy and housing support is available to all, subject to conditions. Winter Fuel Payment is taxed. Full state-pension, received by about 35-40% of retirees, is less than 50% of the minimum wage. I support pensioners and anyone else struggling, and won't play one off against the other.

Nor am I Martin: that's why I didn't write that. In essence (& very quickly) govt creates money to fund its spending. If that spending results in any inflationary pressure govt imposes new taxes or raises existing ones: spending adds money in to the supply, taxes removes money out from the supply.

The triple lock issue is a good example. The Left’s support for the triple lock was because : 1. Pensions are abysmally low already in relation to earnings as a result of Thatcher breaking the link between pensions and earnings eroding the value of the pension over time.2/7

Tax receipt cancels Gov debt. There you go. Back on track. The point is there isn’t a single tax receipt argument for why taxing high wealth is ‘good for balancing gov books’. That matters less than keeping money in circulation. The rich take money & assets out of the economy & hoard it.

No. To dissuade them further concentrating their wealth as assets which become unavailable to anyone else. Land. Buildings. Raw materials. Tax passive income and inert cash strongly. If they have it, you and Gov don’t. And that’s why the gov can’t deliver 1.5m homes.
