For the last 3 days the Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly has been hodling steady in record territory at about 3.10°C above the 1991-2020 baseline, well ahead of the previous record anomaly of 3.03°C set on November 19, 2015. The Climate 8-Ball thinks everything is fine.

The preliminary sea-surface temperature in the Nino 3.4 region just set a record 3.1°C above the 1991-2020 mean, but it's been very volatile. Best to wait for the 2-week window to pass. Conjecture: hurricanes are upwelling cooler waters in the Pacific, contributing to rapid SST changes.
