👀July 2026 Fiction👀 "Convergence" is a short story by @danpeacock.bsky.social about paranoia and war and the eternal possibility that we might yet work together before it's too late Read it here: havenspec.com/fiction/conv...
Excerpt of the short story Convergence by Dan Peacock. The text reads:

Something triggers a sensor and jars me awake, as if I’m falling. The enemy does not seem to be moving, but they are much, much closer. My empty weapon systems jerk into action again, hitting my firewall before they can kick-start another lethal short-surge inside me. I wait for the enemy to show their hand.

And nothing happens.

Suddenly, it makes sense. Gravity is patient, infinitely tireless, and it is slowly teasing both of us together in a silent convergence.

Ex Partum is a dystopian novella reminiscent of The Giver while exploring parental anxieties and exhaustion, invasion of privacy, sacrifice for choice, unlearning and relearning, corporate greed, and over-confidence and reliance on tech. burnett delivers a heartrending story that illuminates the flaws of every society as well as ourselves. —Ai Jiang, author of Linghun and A Palace Near the Wind; image shows surreal depiction of a repetitive interior. I Spent A Year In Forced Labour In The Helium-3 Mines on Titan. Here’s What It Taught Me About Work Ethic by @danpeacock.bsky.social tells us there's no excuse not to rise, grind, and exceed expectations even when you're in a hostile environment slave mine.
Those of us who survived the breach were put in chains and dragged over to their cruiser. They ripped out the harpoons, boosted away, and torpedoed the company craft into untraceable shrapnel from a safe distance.

Most people would have seen this as a setback, but me? I saw it for what it was: a paradigm shift.

This set of observations is produced by my scrolling Reddit and otherwise listening to people talk about "how to write." A) there is no requirement that any of your characters has any sort of "arc" let alone a redemption. B) there is also no requirement that your fiction has a plot.
