@chrisbarnham.bsky.social has a tale in @kaleidotrope.bsky.social that's worth your time to read, a tale of a mysterious Slab found in the Antarctic with ... an unusual mass communication method. Kind of wish this was a real thing, especially now. kaleidotrope.net/autumn-2026/...

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

Chuffed to have a story in this. "Something in the Air" features accident-prone linguists, an ancient megalith, and aliens who really just want to be friendly. Their way.

An #AlternateHistory #Shortstory set in the 1930s that strides the line between #fantasy and #ScienceFiction; about monsters in the world, but it somehow ends on a hopeful note. I liked it very much. Enjoy! #Writersky #Authorsky #AmReading #AmReadingFiction kaleidotrope.net/autumn-2026/...

Even if they were *completely* different volunteers, I don’t think you should be allowed to organize a Worldcon unless you demonstrate how you plan to address the accessibility problems that have plagued the volunteer organizations before you.

in case you missed it, i had a novelette published in @kaleidotrope.bsky.social yesterday, go check it out! “The Beasts of Altain” is dear to my heart. as the product of multiple cultures, there’s a sense of displacement, but also divided loyalty. this story is about that and also a cool beastie 🐅
a watercolor painting of a futuristic astronaut android, accompanied by little cat astronauts. overlaid on top is a screenshot of some text: “The Beasts of Altain” by Jay Kang Romanus. The news comes to Asahar on the wings of bees first. They’ve always been the quickest to bring him information from across Altain, transmitting it to each other through their dances in exponentially growing spirals.
