Much of this is unsurprising, given the general coverage (including from outlets not usually Labour friendly, as such), but encouraging nonetheless.

Of the many takes and forensic analyses of Andy Burnham's conference speech, this is the best. Fair, genuine, encouraging and inspiring. Everyone should listen.

Seems pretty depressing to think we've all become so used to the rut of the last 10-15 years of political discourse that this now feels like a revelation. Arguing for a position works??

I'm really not one for conspiracy theories, but how many different bullshit air traffic control stories do we have to endure before we're really told what's going on?

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.

So Reform have launched an app that tracks small boats arriving in the UK in real time, and already their supporters are complaining that it's boring because there are hardly any boats. They are SO close to getting it.

I would love to ask a prominent BBC journalist to give me an example of an illegitimate concern. Is seems to me that it has become a question not of fact, logic, or ethics but of volume. If a big enough proportion of a village was anxious about Bigfoot or Chemtrails, BBC would cover it in a way...

Labour shouldn't be too worried about the £72M donations to Reform. The government has far more power to influence voters' positive impressions of tangible changes to their lives in the next few years. Andy Burnham does seem to get this, judging by the policies he's prioritised.

This article outlines everything wrong with the attitude towards awards (at least from journalists). There are many shows worthy of winning - that's usually why they were nominated - so Hacks didn't "fail terribly". It got loads of nominations but other shows were more popular in each category.

If I go on the news and declare that Donald Trump represents a 40% chance of destroying humanity in the next 2 years, will there be fevered coverage and people starting to plan how to remove him?

Is there a word or phrase for that specific type of memory when you listen to an album for the first time in years or even decades and find you still remember every lyric, melody and even musical moments and flourishes?

Bill Bryson on the RNLI in "The Road to Little Dribbling : more notes from a small island" (2015)
I had never really stopped to consider what an extraordinary thing the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is. Think about it. A troubled ship calls for help, and eight people - teachers, plumbers, the guy
who runs the pub - drop everything and put to sea, whatever the weather, asking no questions, imperilling their own lives, to try to help strangers. Is there anything more brave and noble than that? The RNLI - I looked this up later - is an organization run by volunteers, supported entirely by public donations. It maintains 233 stations around the coast of Britain and averages twenty-two call-outs per day. It saves 350 lives a year on average.

Even leaving any politics at all aside: as general rule, no state can allow a group of masked men to be able to close down critical infrastructure. This is basic stuff.

Starmer failed because there was no plan. This is, for better or worse, a plan. And I'd say one that so far sounds like it might come closer to what people felt like they were voting for in 2024. Some sense of putting the public realm back together and making it less shit in the everyday for people.
