1/3 Thoughts on the PM's speech 🧵 The Good - v well delivered and had a solid argument. I'm sceptical about parts but at least there was an argument not just platitudes, which is so damn rare these days. He was sensible to flag the end of the triple lock way in the future, finally nettle grasped.

Felt Starmer got there on Number 10 speaking up on racism (esp as McS waned). Square one with Burnham. TikToks about pork scratchings or Everton, nothing about the RNLI stopping service in major ports and leaves to an ex-Tory PM to make the big argument. Shameful from Labour, absolutely shameful

I think it should be a source of deep embarrassment – and perhaps even shame – that Rishi Sunak has spoken out on this before Andy Burnham has.

Also apparently, the Greens' Israel/Palestine motion is holding up Algeria and the pied noirs as an example of successful decolonisation, meaning Jews will be offered "la valise ou le cercueil" - the coffin or the suitcase. They are nutcases.

This is good. Delayed transition to adulthood clearly happening and has impacts e.g. feeling things are out of reach, lack of agency, but retirement will push into mid 70s, careers start in your 30s, maybe 2 diff careers, buying houses 40s. Point is, do opportunities remain the same but +10 yrs?

For god's sake. Where is the Labour government, a bloody LABOUR government, on this. Who is on duty tonight? Beyond the basic madness and illegality, is there any political understanding why Starmer lost the left bloc and then lost his job?

Genuine Q on the terrible government statement on the fash at Dover - was it from the Home Office, in which case, continuity McSweeney, because that's where they are politically from and is a sign of problems to come; OR was it Number 10, in which case, beyond rhyme or reason given why Starmer fell?

This is not patriotism. It is intimidation. Hundreds of masked men in black storming Dover Port, blocking nationally critical infrastructure and chanting “I’m England until I die” is a disgrace.

I simply do not understand what's going on in Labour that renders its leaders incapable of finding a TV camera and speaking out against street violence. Even if you assume they agree about immigration, violence is wrong, unpopular AND against the interests of any even vaguely left wing govt.

A sitting Conservative MP using the word Yookay. Genuinely astonishing to me that visibly there is no warning sign, at all, will be heeded by loads of people at Westminster with a *direct stake* in this type of politics failing.

I detest Arron Banks, but I really don’t understand the fuss here. Journalists wield significant power in British public life. Why shouldn’t their methods and motives be subject to scrutiny using the same legal investigative techniques they use themselves? Why should they be exempt?

The match against France is actually quite important for Tuchel and the squad. A good performance (even if losing) and things will be kind of ok, if we get blown away then it will be like the local elections for Starmer, things could destabilise quite quickly

Here's an unpopular opinion: I think the social media ban for under 16s is good. It's not perfect, better if algo feed companies treated as publishers, but the ban will do good. Yes lots of kids will get round it but based on Aus, less than half of kids will be on soc media. At a basic level...(1/2)

This is good. Amongst folk I know evidence of capital subbing for labour, raising productivity but with uncertain consequences for those on the out. One example: friend runs bunch of factories for a FTSE 50, Lab's increased labour costs meant they put in machines they'd been vacilating about (1/X)

Apart from the fact that the Republican party is a raging binfire, God is neither male nor female. References to God as "King" or "Father" are in line with a system in which men were (largely) dominant. God is beyond human understanding. And so yes, if God exists, God is most likely nonbinary.

If they say, announce a timetable PM, and he says no, what then - they resign, chaos and the contest comes before Burnham is in parliament. Contrary to what Polanski claims, Starmer didn't mention Israel at all (perhaps why he doesn't link to the actual piece, which you can read here - www.jewishnews.co.uk/starmer-slam...) Literally the only person conflating criticism of Israel with antisemitism here is Polanski himself.
Zack Polanski claims that the Prime Minister condemned his comments about antisemitism because "I condemn genocide"

I'm incredibly angry I needed to write a piece about the bizarre stupidity of the Hatzola ambulance ‘false flag’ conspiracy theories, but apparently this is the world we're living in now. Please read & share (including with idiots you see parroting this stuff) www.jewishnews.co.uk/bizarre-stup...
An excerpt from the piece:

"Apparently targeting four ambulances in London’s Jewish community is part of some cunning Mossad plan to do… what, exactly? In this grand conspiracy theory which you have built in your head, does Keir Starmer instantly commit to an Iran ground invasion? Or has ‘Israel’ done it to somehow engender support for Jews in the UK (in this scenario, why blame ‘Netanyahu’ for conflating Jews and Israel when you do it so effortlessly yourself?) Or are you trying on for size the more longstanding ‘Israel false flag’ conspiracy theory of Mossad attacking a Jewish community target to promote fear among Diaspora Jews and encourage them to move to Israel?

"So, then, is Israel’s cunning plan burning several ambulances to induce Diaspora Jews to migrate to Israel now, when the country is being targeted by Iranian ballistic missile fire?"

I move between feeling sick at just how open so many people now are in their antisemitism and relief that people I admire are waking up to just how bad things are on what could loosely be called their 'side'. Twitter has more open Nazis. This site has more antisemites with 'be kind' in their bios.
