🌙 Bringing Archaea to moon! Our latest study with the Orsi lab shows that M. okinawensis can survive, perform methanogenesis, and grow under simulated Enceladus conditions. Yet another reminder of how astonishingly adaptable Archaea are. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Ignicoccus is one of the most fascinating archaeal organisms due to its double membrane (and because of its tight interaction with Nanoarchaeum). But how does a cell like this divide? As so often, archaea invented their own way ... check out our new preprint and I promise you will be stunned!

Legendary meeting! Do you remember? I forgot my poster in the train and had to ask you to print it in DinA4 format for me, which you did of course. The meeting was fantastic though even when presenting a small print poster 😅!!!

A personal note on Archaea: these extraordinary microorganisms never cease to challenge our ideas about life’s limits and possibilities. Time and again THEY ask the important questions and astonish us with their biological ingenuity. Exploring them remains one of science’s great adventures.

Science is never a solo effort. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside exceptional people who make discovery both possible and enjoyable, especially within the Germany Archaea Centre at the @uniregensburg.bsky.social , where teamwork and shared curiosity drive much of what we do.

Same in the archaeal taxonomy. The recent re-naming of phyla etc lead to a high level of confusion (do not ever have „bacteria“ in the name of an archaeon!!!). It’s a nightmare right now.
