During the summer I will plan bike routes around shaded areas, especially intersections/red lights where I'm going to be stopped for a period of time. It is the difference between staying somewhat cool and getting absolutely soaked in sweat.

We don't need Prop 45 to build new housing - recent state laws have already streamlined approval of new homes in existing cities and suburbs. Instead, Prop 45 would rubber stamp sprawl in wildfire zones, and make California's insurance crisis worse. Vote No on 45.

What's all this traffic? Why isn't this line of cars moving when they have the green light? Would ya look at that, it's drivers blocking the intersection, because drivers get in each other's way and delay each other far more than somebody on a bicycle has ever delayed a driver.

The worst part of Bonta caving on the Paramount merger is that it's a big flashing signal to every other company that there is no antitrust enforcement in America and you can bully your way into getting whatever you want. It's a monumentally bad decision.

If one of the "rewards" of affluence is that you get to opt out of the services everyone else uses -- roads & transit, aviation system, schools, healthcare, etc. -- then those services are inevitably starved of resources & decline. We have to force affluent people to be invested in them.

Anyone using weather as an excuse to advocate against safe biking infrastructure is a counterfactual asshole. Some of the cities around the world that have the highest rates of transit riding have real winter conditions. Riders deserve to get home alive even if it is chilly out.

People constantly claim that having a child makes biking impossible. The reality is that the only thing restricting your mobility is hostile city infrastructure. Streets have the power to either give you safe transportation options or force you into a car for every single errand.

This seems absurdly simple, but: Republicans talk *all the time* about how Democrats are bad. Not this or that individual Democrat, but the party, the ideology, the very idea of Democrats. Democrats almost never do this about Republicans. Not in a coordinated, concerted way.

We get told to "learn to take a joke" when drivers laugh about hitting pedestrians & micromobility users that get in their way. We get told that drivers threatening us or revving their engine at us wouldn't actually hurt us & not to be so dramatic. This is the result of normalising & excusing it.

More specifics have emerged. This is murder. The driver claims he was only going 15 mph, but police say the physical evidence disputes this. www.kbtx.com/2026/07/19/n...
Investigators say Medina had been driving east when he passed two bicyclists at what deputies described as a high rate of speed. One cyclist reportedly raised his arms and yelled toward the vehicle. Deputies allege Medina then slammed on his brakes, skidded to a stop, put the vehicle in reverse and rapidly accelerated backward, striking Rapp and knocking her into the roadway. The affidavit notes the rear hatch of Medinas car was crushed inward and the rear window was completely shattered. Investigators also documented skid marks from braking and a separate set of skid marks from reversing; the affidavit says the reverse skid marks appeared to show the driver steering toward something while backing up.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.
