What I've seen developing ever since "The Rise of the MBA" in the 70s is corporations being run for the personal, usually short-term financial, benefit of the C-suite *only*, using "shareholder value" as a stalking horse. It's the MBA-think of the C-suite, all companies are the same, they make MONEY

And in 2022, SCOTUS ruled on an ADA case with huge ramifications for Title IX. In Cummings v. Premier Rehab Keller, PLLC, SCOTUS ruled that even if an individual’s civil rights are violated, they cannot seek “emotional damages” from the discriminating institution.

Trump’s Title IX regulation went into effect in 2020, where it received almost no media coverage during the pandemic. There were also few students on campus to participate in or protest the process. Schools went above and beyond in implementing hostility toward survivors.

Trump rescinded prior guidance on Title IX during his first year in office, then put out a new regulation that experts warned would retraumatize survivors and offer perpetrators impunity. It literally had provisions designed to allow confessed perpetrators to get away with rape.

The main reason you haven’t heard about campus sexual violence in a few years is because Trump and SCOTUS have made it much, much harder for survivors to come forward. You might vaguely remember that Title IX was a big battleground in his first term. And that we lost.

I recently had a conversation with a mother in my family who does this. Crucially, she is not the stereotypical "boy mom." She considers herself a feminist and also will gleefully talk about how men are trash and responsible for making other women in the family miserable. And lets her son do this.

Today, there is still a lingering sense that expelling a rapist is a bridge too far. It’s hard to grapple with how far we’ve backslid since 2013. For a minute there, it really felt like there was widespread acceptance for the idea that schools should be safe.

Since then, there has been a good deal of research on racial disparities in Title IX enforcement. No one found anything. (Myself included.) In fact, sexual assault is one of the only school disciplinary proceedings without a racial disparity.

For a very brief period of time, expulsions increased—slightly. At its highest rate, the average school expelled one rapist every three years. When Trump took office and rescinded the Obama era guidance, the expulsion rate dropped back down to zero or near zero.

100% endorse this thread. I teach consent, violence prevention & bystander intervention for a living - It is my area of expertise. There is *no* evidence of the existence of an "Oops, my bad!" rapist. "Sexual assault is a miscommunication" is a myth without any evidence. It is an intentional act.

A tremendous thread- how we are raising our son. He was having a bad evening a few nights ago, I asked him if it was OK for me to hug him or comfort him, he said "no" and I respected his request for boundaries. Later when he was better he said "I could use a hug now." Build trust! It works.
