As a few people have pointed out, I realise he's got a big advantage because if you're the Pope you can say almost anything, whereas if you're President of Slovenia (for example) you're forced to say things like 'Slovenia is front and centre in the AI revolution'. But still. Good poping.

All these tech guys going 'look, you don't need musicians anymore! We can just generate whatever music you want!' and it's the fucking POPE who has to explain to them that art occupies a space not replaceable by the products of machines.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

The law isn’t helping. New York’s voluntary intoxication loophole makes it nearly impossible for survivors to seek justice if they drank or used substances prior to an assault. Because of this loophole, Jane Doe’s assailants may never be held accountable under the law.
