Most of the time, deaths from pneumonic plague are people not realizing it's not just a standard respiratory infection until it's too late! You'd think a researcher would know better, but I tend to not discount the "people are fucking stupid" factor until shown evidence that wasn't it

One crazy thing about this new outpouring of racism against South Asians and calls for expulsion or forced assimilation is it was kicked off by some brown skinned students at a Texas game wearing cowboy hats and excitedly celebrating their football team — ie some guys very assimilated to America.

There is a reassuring fantasy among those who have critiques of unfettered left-wing governance that right agrees with these critiques and will temper the left when in power. But the contemporary right isnt that, it's an apocalyptic doomsday cult that lives in an alternate reality.

Point of information: The Republican Party has already spent far more on protecting a single U.S. Senate seat in Texas than the TOTAL cost of the 2000 Presidential election for BOTH Al Gore and George W. Bush COMBINED. www.brennancenter.org/our-work/ana...
The Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee together spent $79.9 million on television ads in the 2000 presidential campaign, far more than the $67.1 million spent by the campaigns of Gov. Bush and Vice President Gore, the study says.

Conservatives are happy for everyone who isn't a cis het white male to be and feel unsafe, because it's not your world. It's their world. If women don't want to be raped, they should stay home or only go out in the company of 'safe' males who will protect them. It's by design. It's by intent.
