everything is awful, but my new Dungeon Crawler Carl hausflag came today and it's making me feel some better about the world
A big couch-sized flag is Dungeon Crawler Carl themed! It reads:
- in this house we believe -
mongo is appalled
gods are less powerful than you think
corporate overlords can eat shit
they will not break us
live, laugh, launch magic missiles
viva la revolucion, carl
but for real, mongo is appalled

Good job, California. 15 states to go. No child should marry. A child who marries isn’t emancipated, her (and it’s usually a girl) new spouse becomes her guardian. If he abuses her, she cannot go to a domestic violence shelter. She cannot initiate a divorce. She can’t have her own money.

California bans child marriage, even with parental permission
Supporters hail ban on child marriage and companion bill to address forced marriages as “most comprehensive framework” in the U.S.

I went for a walk with a neighbour yesterday who suggested we go through a secluded spot behind a neighbouring building. He was amazed I’d never done so before. I had to explain that’s the kind of space we’re taught to avoid. This stuff really doesn’t occur to them at all.

I re-watched Angela Collier's video about Richard Feynman yesterday and that's a big ongoing theme throughout. It made me really sad. I can picture a slightly different path in my life leading me to be one of these miserable men. What a bummer. youtu.be/TwKpj2ISQAc

Anyway I don't want to be accused of starting drama. I don't want to be assaulted, and I don't want to be a problem! So I leave and the men assume I'm tired or dull or maybe they don't care bc without me, they don't have to confront the creeps, they can claim ignorance and buy the bar another round.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

I responded on FB about our state's history of mail in voting. A guy's response to me was rambling and incoherent. I replied "I'm sorry. I don't speak MAGA but congratulations or sorry that happened to you." He immediately deleted his post. They call people snowflakes because they are so delicate.

Pieter Bruegel the Elder: hey guys, I'm gonna paint this scene to capture for all time the landscape of the Netherlandish Renaissance with a particular focus on peasants and their work. It'll be the first modern landscape, basically me, mid-bite:
From wikipedia: "The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by the Netherlandish Renaissance artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565. It depicts the harvest time set in a landscape, in the months of July and August or late summer." "Notably, some of the peasants are shown eating while others are harvesting wheat, a depiction of both the production and consumption of food.[2] Pears can be seen on the white cloth in front of the upright sitting woman who eats bread and cheese while a figure in the tree to the far right picks pears. The painting shows a large number of activities representative of the 16th-century Belgian rural life."close up of a figure dressed in black, facing towards the viewer, wide-eyed. They are shoving a big piece of bread into their mouth

This is inhumane. When I worked at the ACLU, our legal and policy teams were working hard to end executions via lethal injection because the government was not being transparent about the contractors supplying them with these drugs, their origins and makeup. The lawyers warned this would happen.
