"There is something revealing in the gap between the masculine fantasy of protection and its reality: the fantasy requires a stranger, an obvious villain, a moment of uncomplicated heroism. Reality asks a man to believe a woman over his friend."

The climate crisis has reached the stage where only radically left-wing solutions have any hope of working. We've been trying to coax polluters to change their ways under capitalism for decades and it hasn't worked. Environmental politics ARE left-wing politics.

If you think Trump’s “musings” and “jokes” are not worth headlines, no matter how shocking or offensive they may be, then you haven’t been paying attention. The past decade and past week show they're too dangerous too ignore. My new piece at @contrariannews.org www.contrariannews.org/p/dont-dismi...

Yet again, for those at the back - RTE should be entirely funded from the public purse and removed from the advertising market, with a primary focus on quality journalism, culture, the Irish language and providing a platform to Irish writers and artists, and not two-bit entertainment "concepts".

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

Once again it needs to be stressed that this is something happening across the board in Irish immigration- changes in practice leading to refusals that would not have occurred in previous years. We are in a very dark time for the rights of people migrating to Ireland and their families.

I think the relevant caselaw here is shaping up to be Rylands & Fletcher. If you collect up any inherently risky material or item on your property and it then escapes and causes damage, it creates strict liability. ie, you do not have to prove liability, you go straight to quantum of compensation.
