Grim-as-F thread of weirdnesses in the male AI community. If these people can’t treat their colleagues like humans they sure as heck won’t care about nebulous concepts of public duty. These guys will *never* self-regulate.

For several years I wrote a lot about vintage posters and to my surprise some bits of this have worn quite well. The original piece about losing the North to England is interesting in our new times… link below.

Interesting thread which is v relevant to my work. I help people create public places which work better for women and girls. So to some extent normalising the issue by trying to design out dangerous men. There are good critiques of this.

90 years ago, Parliament responded to the rise of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts by passing the Public Order Act, which banned political uniforms, private militias and the threat of force for political objects. The debates make very resonant reading today. Here's the Liberal Robert Bernays. (Short 🧵)
You cannot conduct a fair match when one side is playing with a ball and the other with bombs and, if democracy is to survive, it must be conducted according to definite and recognised rule. One of them is that no political party should resort to any weapon other than reason and argument. The introduction of private armies, as I see it, strikes at the root of democracy. I know it is contended that the Blackshirts are not armed and, therefore, are not an army, but I do not think that argument can be upheld. … Uniformed men in military formation suggest, and are meant to suggest, the idea of force. It is no argument to reply that at this or that demonstration no force is intended. It is an inescapable fact that a uniform in politics symbolises force, to be used either now or in the future.

4 panel comic

Panel 1:
A post from “kavishj9611” that reads:

“All the people who are anti-Al or want to slow Al progress, I have one question:
If Al disappeared tomorrow, could you still get through an entire workday without ChatGPT, Claude, or any other
Al tool?
Imagine Al was suddenly banned.
Would you actually be willing to give it up?”

Panel 2:
And Orange Guy and a Pink Guy are standing in a room that has two pipes in it. Both pipes are pumping raw sewage into the room. The characters are waist deep in it.
Orange Guy says smugly “Ok Mr “I don’t want to be in a room that’s filling up with raw sewage” let me ask you this”

Panel 3:
The sewage has reached their chests. Pink Guy is gagging. Orange Guy smugly continues “If all this sewage disappeared right now, could you get through the day without it?”

Panel 4:
The sewage is almost up to their eyeballs. Orange Guys says “Look at that shit floating past your face. Are you willing to give that up?”

Very cool that Shopify’s CEO thinks the poor should have far less of a vote than the rich. Still worth that ad read money, folks?
Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke says “good system.” In response to the following proposal:

“Interesting... what about weighted voting proportional to the level of income tax you pay? (no income tax paid - O vote, $1-100k - 1 vote, $100-200k 2 votes and so on... cap it at 5 votes for $500k+. For those that constantly complain about the wealthy not paying tax/fair share they'd have nothing to worry about right? Why not reward representation of taxation and build a democracy around those that foot the bill?”

Never forget that time Sam Neill gave a quote about murder that was so beautifully kabonkers, we all assumed it was a Clickhole bit initially

SAM NEILL

GENERAL JOHN MACARTHUR

If you were to commit a murder,

how would you do it?

It's got to be big! No slipping

something into someones drink, that's just

pathetic. I'd use a steamroller, just leave a

stain on the road. There's probably a couple

of people I'd put under a steamroller,

but I won't say who they are, otherwise

when they see a steamroller coming

their way they'll be on full alert. And

steamrollers don't go very fast...

Scene is a LONGBOAT sailing on the sea. It is all drawn in the style of the Bayeaux Tapestry. A voice is coming from the boat:

Owwww

Uuuuuuurgh

Ooooooooh

[Scene changes to on the deck of the boat - still drawn like the Bayeaux Tapestry. A SOLDIER is talking to HAROLD, who is lying on the deck of the boat, with the arrow in his eye.]

SOLDIER:
For God's sake stop it Harold!

HAROLD:
Oh I'm sorry. It's not like I've got an ARROW IN MY EYE or anything

SOLDIER:
Look, we discussed this. The arrow is your thing. People want to see the arrow.

HAROLD:
It's been in there for 950 years. I should really see a doctor

SOLDIER:
No! We are travelling to England to be displayed in the British Museum.
What do you think people would say if you didn't have your arrow in?

HAROLD:
I don't care. I want it taken out. It hurts.

SOLDIER:
No.

HAROLD:
But I could get it seen to in England! The NHS has some of the best tapestry eye surgeons in the world!

SOLDIER:
Oh right, I get it, so this is health tourism...

HAROLD:
Duh, no, cos I'm Anglo Saxon?

SOLDIER:
Ohmigod you sound so Brexit
