My debut poetry collection is out now at Bottlecap Press! These are some of my favorite pieces from my life since college, and one of them contains the best bit of wordplay I've ever written - which is saying a lot. Pick up a copy at the link in the next post! 💜💜💜

Each of these poems was written in a place that no longer exists. From demolished music venues to the arms of vanished partners to the interiors of reforming vastus lateralis muscles, each of these poems serves as a snapshot of something that was deeply significant to T!K! Williams at a previous point in her life but, for better or for worse, had to be left behind.

This debut chapbook was born from upwards of a decade of internal dialogue about memory, sentiment and personal growth, but above all, it came from T!K!'s desire to keep her writing fun, even when its subjects weren't. Included here are some of her favorite poetic forms, the sestina and the villanelle, which both utilize repetition of words and lines to both force deeper thematic explanation and open new ways to play with language.

T!K! Williams (she/they) is a poet and hopeless music enthusiast based in Indiana. She writes from the intersections of trans identity, disability, autism and faith, even if she doesn't quite know where those things come from yet. Her work can be found in Mania Magazine, Poetries in English, Transients Magazine, and JAKE!, and she can be found trying to talk to the deer in the nearest forest.

ICE claims that Araujo drove into one of their SUVs with his van and then tried to run over an agent. There were no marks on the van and KHOU11's Jeremy Rogalski found surveillance footage showing ICE chasing Araujo and cutting him off. Renee Good all over again.

ICE is engaged in a very large escalation nationwide, with the agency claiming to be hitting record arrest numbers amid the return of quotas. This has gotten very little attention from the media because ICE learned lessons from the chaotic disasters of Kristi Noem’s tenure. Keep a watch.

First sonnet in a while, inspired by Diane Seuss

My doctor told me I needed sodium like I needed salvation,
to at least aim for twice the daily amount in order to remember what
normal meant, but knowing about something and being able
to rest in it are very different states of being. After
the appointment, and after the next appointment and the next appointment,
I packed my bags full of peppercorns and fennel seed and
started walking, and on my way the oceans parted and the dead
came back to life, whether or not that was better for any of them.
I am tending the pillars outside Sodom. I am seasoning the pickled
ground of Gomorrah. I am trying to sustain myself on tombs
whose passages I never cleared but whose traps can reach
out their gleaming, bitter hands and know that I will meet them.
In this way my ambitions are lethal, and I am still a child, and I am left
scraping small crystals from the palms of someone who can only look back.

What if I started posting poems again

Starting today, I stand past the edge of path,
accruing small debts to gravity.
I have studied release before,
a body ago,
and I was left ruined in the pursuit
of something that even now I still
reach for, even if I do so in a safer,
more learned way,
with other hands reaching with me.

If my body is a machine, even if it breaks
or slows now, I have still spent half my life
in perpetual motion, gently grasping my problems
and trying to find the right place
to let them fall
and this
isn’t very different
if I don’t
start thinking about it.

I am a non-Newtonian fluid, and I
am not under new pressures,
no matter how flattened
and spread thin I find myself.
But, like me, my muscles
have lost their memory, and none of us
can remember the correct
amount of force to apply,
barely aware yet
of the freedom this will give us.

I respond in kind, in all the ways
that I can. I break
and I devour. I support
and I envelop. I I struggle
and I love. I struggle
and I fall. I struggle
and I love.
