The MD/Genesis port of Burning Force has a pretty good rendition of the OST, considering the massive hardware gap and the constraints they had to work with back then. Anyway here's me trying to cram the whole arcade arrangement of stage 1 into the console, just for fun. youtu.be/rh9Tirg2DG4?...

So I only recently learned that Moraff's dungeon crawler enemy graphics are actually displayed in sensible colors when you pick a 256 color video mode. But there's only a few of them available, and 2 squish them into lower resolutions, while others require specific SVGA cards. 🤷‍♂️

Mspaintober Day 4

The Sunday Simpletons - Joker Joins!

N*d Fl*nders and B*rt S*mpson (censored in accordance with webtoon's copyright policy) are in an empty room by themselves... or at least they would be if Batman villain The Joker wasn't poking out of B*rt's spiky hair.

"What the fuck?" says N*d. "Who is this guy?"

"Don't have a cow, man," says B*rt.

It's been a while since I shared last SimCity SA-1 update because I was thinking some very complex things with SA-1 Character Conversion DMA and with the terrain generator, but I did it. I got animations to work and 10,000 maps support on the game. #1,000-#1,999 are the alternate maps from original

Capcom Engineers are building tools that aren't just Game Industry leading, but Tech Industry leading. And making it open source. But this will neither get coverage or apprication. Instead people will blindly fall for clickbait.

So the fastest JSON serializer for .NET now is developed by CAPCOM as part of their game engine that powers Resident Evil / Biohazard

I did not see that coming lol

https://github.com/CAPCOM-TD-OSS/REDox

They’re also doing their own memory-management work underneath this. Instances are managed in 64 KB pages, with page reference counting plus cache and GC optimizations. The goal seems to be reducing the cost of managing huge numbers of objects while improving locality and avoiding some of the fragmentation problems they’ve had before.
This also makes CAPCOM’s REDox project much more interesting.

REDox is their open-source .NET serialization/data library, with JSON, CBOR, MessagePack-style structured data handling, lazy decoding, streaming, compact token storage, etc.
At first glance it just looks like a standalone .NET library.
In context, it looks much more like the kind of infrastructure they can write and test normally in C#, then feed into this RE:Runtime / RE:C++ pipeline and ship as native engine code.

Mspaintober 2026 Day 3

Saturday Stories For Kids! - Joker's Jump!

We see famous batman villain The Joker standing by himself, smiling with his chubby pale cheeks.

He does a little jump, which makes a little "hup!" noise.

Then he goes right back to standing still.

the rack mount adapter, a 4U skeleton framework with two long divots in it

the adapter containing two Mac Pro 2013s, in their cylinder cases. the I/O sections are meant to face towards each other here and I assume they would be strapped to the mount somehow

The newest GemuBaka feature is WWF Royal Rumble (Dreamcast/arcade), so I've seen the game with a fresh mindset recently. Extremely unlikely this would happen in a real match, but ... Versus mode is elimination style and not first pin wins. Jeff has knocked out three opponents with one move here.
