I’m not sure how to phrase this, but I wonder if indies would be more effective if they were better at trojan horsing their messages. like before playing final fantasy 7 you wouldn’t immediately know all the anti-corporate environmental messages, but messages are often THE selling point of indies.

according to aonuma, the Zelda remake’s goal was to be part realistic and part nostalgia for the original game, so I would make the argument they aren’t based on puppets, but instead the reason they have high angled eyes and strong pointed features is because they’re based on the in-game N64 models

I think the reason so many recent monster collecting games feel like they lack strong designs is because people are making (or stealing) pokemon again rather than making comic book werewolves that turn into battleships or making bug themed robots with swapable limbs
