I think the entire right wing media ecosystem was primed to make this a huge deal, they all had their talking points ready to go and this was going to be THE big gotcha that brought down Jack Smith and they are just scrambling because it turns out the whole thing was an embarrassing mistake

Abstention is always a vote for evil. I tried to explain that to a bunch of idiotic Kamala Harris protestors at a rally in Philly in 2024. No dice. No thought. No brains. And... here we are.

The thing about abstention is that unless you do massive amount of other political or organizing work* it appears to all observers to be “nonvoting due to not giving a shit” *posting is not political work

The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

stop apologizing to people who come at you over this and just block them. they aren't engaging in good faith and they don't have a good or justifiable argument. they are actively fighting against the adoption of common-sense gender neutral language that helps everyone

the campaign to accuse anyone who refers to a trans woman in the abstract/nonspecific case with "they" rather than "she"is in fact not about including trans women;it is very specfically an outgrowth of the active effort to purge nonbinary people from trans spaces that took place over the last decade

The corollary to this, though, is that pretending the crisis is worse than it is ("I'm not going to have kids because they'll be dead by 2050") serves as a paralytic for a lot of people and gives them an excuse to check out and ignore the issue entirely because "we're all going to die anyway."

Jews are absolutely under existential threat right now internationally, because the actual argument often made to Jews is basically "well if you don't side with us in wanting to see the people who slaughtered your coreligionists punished, shame if something were to happen to you."

I think that is something that opponents of the Israeli government have a strong emotional reason to believe is true that does not, imo, survive contact with the actual cultural reality of how leftists have consistently responded to dead Jews anywhere for any reason.

But you know, I'm biased, I only saw what felt like the entire left, all of whom claimed they would totally defend us from antisemitism, explode in rapturous, jubilant celebration of dead Jews in the streets on 10/7, & then respond to each atrocity in the diaspora since by running defense for it.
