This is the essential problem in a nutshell I would argue, demagogic discourse parasitizes the intellectual labor of its enemies. But it's one of the weaknesses of debate as a model. You don't debate something if you're unwilling to lose the argument, which makes it a poor fit for civil rights.

Well, read the Trazyn/Orikan duology out of curiosity. It was legitimately charming, although almost every character is kind of awful. Newcrons are such an improvement over the old - as much as Trazyn IS by all rational metrics a terrible person he at least has some capacity for empathy & nuance.
