October 7 AM: The sun rises on a clearly organizing Isaias. It's starting to show "that look" as it feeds on extremely warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico. Anticipate a period of quick intensification today and tomorrow as it heads towards the northern Gulf Coast. AL / MS / LA / FL -- Prepare now.

Privatizing radars doesn't ensure access to radar data for anybody. And privatizing radars doesn't fix the communications issues that NWS has been having that is preventing the data from getting out.

Killed. NSF’s SBE was killed, in violation of law. The President does not have the power to choose to kill programs at a whim by defunding them. The imperial presidency was a mistake and we are in a separation of powers constitutional crisis.

Meteorologists have gotten really good at predicting disruptive events like hurricanes, blizzards, and tornado outbreaks with precision only dreamed of 30 years ago. Hurricane track forecasting has improved so that a four-day forecast now is about as accurate as a one-day forecast was back in 1991.

There’s a lot to unpack here, not the least of which is that the benchmarks being measured against here aren’t that important? Oh good, “the market” beats the NBM on a high temperature forecast at day ahead, evening before, and morning of. Like…?

The central pressure of Hurricane Polo is measured to be 889 millibars. That means more than 11% of the typical atmosphere at sea level is missing from the storm's center. It is the second strongest storm on record in the eastern Pacific Ocean, and one of the strongest in Earth's modern history.

America”. Work is underway to update naming conventions as quickly as
possible on online maps, weather products, websites and other materials
