Tomorrow is likely the start of a multi-day stretch of substantial heavy rainfall activity over portions of the southwest into the southern Plains as part of the impacts from Hurricane Polo (and its eventual remnants). Confidence in scattered/numerous flash flooding episodes continues to increase.
WPC Day 2 Excessive Rainfall Outlook issued at 1819 UTC. A MODERATE risk for excessive rainfall is in place for much of the Four Corners region.WPC Day 3 Excessive Rainfall Outlook issued at 1713 UTC. A MODERATE risk for excessive rainfall is in place for portions of Arizona and New Mexico into the southern High Plains.WPC Day 4 Excessive Rainfall Outlook issued at 1838 UTC. A MODERATE risk for excessive rainfall is in place for portions of Colorado and New Mexico, as well as an area between central Texas into central Oklahoma.WPC Day 5 Excessive Rainfall Outlook issued at 1831 UTC. A large SLIGHT risk for excessive rainfall is in place for portions of the Arklatex region and Oklahoma.

WPC upgraded to huge moderate risk areas for excessive rain Monday into Tuesday as a predecessor rainfall event (PRE) occurs ahead of Polo’s remnants. Odalys playing a part too. Super concerning given how wet it’s been, recent burn scars and how much rain is to come.
WPC excessive rain risk Monday and Monday night showing a red moderate risk area over the four corners. WPC excessive rainfall outlook Tuesday and Tuesday night showing a red moderate risk area from Arizona and New Mexico into the southern plains.

Hurricane Polo looks more disorganized as easterly shear and infiltration of drier air begins to degrade its structure. As fast as Polo has strengthened, it wouldn't surprise me if it weakens faster than forecasted. NOAA reconnaissance later today will assess Polo's intensity and structure.

NOAA reconnaissance data coming out of Hurricane Polo are nothing short of spectacular and indicative of a very intense, compact, and tall hurricane.

Hurricane Polo is rapidly intensifying. A series of passes by NOAA reconnaissance aircraft showed the winds increasing in strength & the radius of maximum wind contracting inward. With the vortex aligned & favorable environ. conditions, Hurricane Polo should become a very intense hurricane soon.

There is considerable ensemble spread in Hurricane Lowell's eventual turn northward starting sometime this weekend. About half of the 12Z ECMWF ensemble members have a track near/over the Hawaiian islands that could result in concerning impacts early next week.

Tropical Storm Edouard is organizing and strengthening, but doesn’t have much time left over water (thankfully). The storm reminds me of Humberto in 2007. The primary risk is heavy rain and flooding as the storm moves inland into eastern TX.

Stay safe out there and share this infographic with friends in smoky areas. For more tips, check out our wildfire guide: yaleclimateconnections.org/wildfire-gui...
Protect yourself from smoke
Check air quality forecasts: Pay attention to local weather alerts or monitor AirNow.gov. Limit outdoor activity when the air quality is poor.
Wear respirator masks outside: N95 and P100 masks can help you avoid breathing in smoke particles.
Keep indoor air clean: Make sure windows stay closed, run an air purifier and adjust air conditioner settings to keep outside air outside.
Protect vulnerable neighbors: Poor air quality is especially dangerous for children, pregnant women, and people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or heart disease.

Get ready for dark skies and extremely poor air quality in the Great Lakes and Northeast. Most of the smoke from the fires in Minnesota and Ontario is aloft this morning and circulating around the heat dome. That likely changes by Wednesday.

This snow band is an all-timer, likely producing a foot of snow in just 3-4 hrs. Supported by incredible lift w/in the ascending branch of the frontogenetic circulation, it follows that this band won’t weaken but will contract. Whoever remains in that contraction will likely see 3+‘ of snowfall.
