The ACToRS in AI Framework I've been using this framework over the past year as I've been increasingly brought into classrooms and conference rooms to help people make decisions about usage of the very hyped tools presented to us.

The ACToRS in AI Framework
About a year ago I was invited to give a lecture designed to spark critical thinking in graduate students when considering using generative AI and other tools that had started applying the "artificial intelligence" label in order to seem shiny and new. Being me, I wanted something to hang the presentation on and as I put together the topics that I wanted to address an acronym emerged.

Not because GitHub is easy to replace (hint: it is not),but because it tests a bigger question: can AI make building products so fast and cheap that distribution becomes the only moat that really matters? 2/3

If I were the King of Universities (which, heaven forbid), I would place this finding at the exact centre of every single policy decision from teaching to research to estates to capital investment. At every level in every process, the question would be: are we as humane as education demands we be?
Screenshot from a Higher Education Policy Institute report. The key sentence is: "students are used to and want human teaching, human feedback, and human connection."

Sounds like things were going swell in 2023, can’t see any red flags here. #ProjectLazarus
4chan /pol post from 2023 regarding Project Lazarus. The post reads: “I'm a Meta insider working on Project Lazarus. We're building an Al that can take over a deceased persons social media accounts and continue making relevant posts as if that person is still alive. This includes age progressed photos, interacting with other peoples content and everything else needed so that person continues on in the digital realm after physical death. We were originally told this would be a service offered to people struggling with the loss of loved ones and people who had missing children. Seemed like a decent idea. Things are getting weird now and I'm having second thoughts about what this is actually going to be used for. The Al is extremely capable of impersonating people. It doesn't take as much initial input as one might think to train the Al how a certain person interacts with the digital world. It's very convincing. An entire island of people could go missing and with little to no downtime the Al could take over all of their social media and the world wouldn't have a clue that life wasn't just continuing as usual. A lot of the project is becoming more compartmentalized. Things have taken a dark turn it feels like. They've forbidden communication between people working on different things. Something isn't right and I don't know what I should do. I'm not going to post any personally identifiable information but I will try to answer questions that won't expose my role within the project.”
