Tornado forecasting had to start somewhere. In the 1880s, US Army Signal Corps meteorologist John Park Finley studied tornado patterns, built a network of observers and pioneered experimental tornado forecasts. Meet America’s first tornado forecaster: www.noaa.gov/heritage/sto... #NOAAHeritageWeek

Get the Bears out of Soldier Field. I don’t care if they end up in a vacant lot in Gary. That playing surface is unacceptable for a modern day superstar QB.

Biggs: D'Andre Swift with a 28 yd TD run. #Bears now have 552 yards offense. 59-37 lead. Per Pro Football Reference, only team to score more points in Week 1 is 1973 Falcons, who put a 62-7 licking on the Saints.

Chicagoland is the statistical derecho capitol of the world. And for some reason, the south suburbs and NWI often seem to take the brunt of many of these events. I have personally experienced quite a few derechos in my life, including some rather notable ones.

Can see the rapid pressure rise and fall behind the bow echo at Calumet Harbor.
National data buoy center trace of pressure at the calumet harbor buoy near Chicago. Pressure fluctuates slightly in the morning, takes a short dip as the squall line approaches and then jumps rapidly in the rain cooled air, before quickly falling back to near its previous level. These rapid pressure changes can cause water bodies to quickly rise and fall for up to a couple hours after.
