This news is important because all the fucks out there actively attempting to wreck the world want you to think that the work is hopeless and just mitigating the worst case scenario. It's not. Fucking keep going.

The thing is, I enjoy fall in isolation but also I live in Minnesota and I know winter will be miserable and could begin tomorrow, so every day of wearing a light jacket and eating an apple cider donut comes with an edge of absolute dread. More than any other time of year, autumn is Anxiety Season.

Every. Single. Problem. In this entire story can be easily remedied by one simple solution, which is don’t fucking let your cat wander around outside completely unsupervised! You can’t be outraged and furious about what your cat gets up to when you don’t even know where it is!

seeing this spread by well-meaning accounts. but I don't think this is actually happening and it also strikes me as extremely dangerous both for legal exposure (imitating officers is a fairly serious crime) and for physical safety.

“TWIN CITIES 2026 / GUERNICA 1937” by Jennifer Nelson of Fridley. Note the Merit Award from the state fair, and the black and white ribbon from the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Incredibly moving. One of the most powerful images I’ve ever seen.
Crop art by Jennifer Nelson of Fridley MN. At the bottom of the picture there’s a piece of cardboard with the words “TWIN CITIES 2026 / GUERNICA 1937”
Below is a legend of all the seeds and grains used in making the crop art.,
On the left is a pale pink ribbon with the MN State Fair logo and the words Merit Award in gold.
Above it is a large black and white ribbon with “MIA” and “Minneapolis Institute of Art” written on it.

I did take a small stone from the river nearby, but in exchange, I left a stone I’d picked off the bank of the Mississippi. Just to give the land a clue of where we all went after we left.

It’s still crazy to me that the first thing I was greeted with after stepping off the bus by the old family farm was a hill covered in bilberries, raspberries and lingonberries. Like visiting a grandma you haven’t seen in ages and the first thing she wants to do is feed you.

Ggggrandpa’s (tenant) farm has bilberries and lingonberries. Nice!
My hand holding some rope bilberries. They are pea-sized and look similar to wild lowbush blueberries, except they are a much darker blue.Low-growing plants with tiny leaves growing at the base of a birch tree, with tiny red berries.

The southern end of Naerøyfjord and the village of Gudvangen. A tiny village barely visible between the mountains. The cliffs to the left are shrouded in clouds at the very top, but halfway down, they are glowing in the rays of a setting sun.

I just answered the question “is this your first time in Norway?” with a cheerful “yep!”, and saying that less than a mile from the farm my ggggrandfather left to come to America, in a valley that probably cared for my ancestors for three thousand years, is giving me some Feelings.

Girl, you are a long way from home! I hope you’re behaving yourself out there! What’s that I’m hearing? Oh…oh no…
Solidago Canadensis, a North American native flower that is invasive in Northern Europe, growing along the banks of Akerselvi. The plant is about four feet tall, with multiple vibrant spikes of small yellow flowers. This one is just starting to fully bloom.

A low-to-the-ground, bright red sign depicting a human figure reaching up to pick an apple, in a circle with a slash through it. Text reads: “Leave plants, fruits, nuts and seeds alone if you are not a squirrel,” first in Norwegian, and again in English.

The downside of solo travel is that sometimes you’re a plant nerd visiting another country’s botanical garden and you really want someone to nerd out at when you see something cool, and you can’t, because you’re by yourself.

Who up at the Botanisk Hage this morning?
Stone steps are leading down to a circular garden. It is late summer, so only a few flowers are in bloom. There is a multistory stone building in the background. It is mid- morning, and warm light is shining down from the upper left corner.
