Story time. My wife's post here reminds me of one of my favorite stories from my time on the Hill, of which there are many. I was in Comms for a Dem member, and the Caucus would put on a weekly talking points seminar for comms staffers. More often than not, these were run by Third Way.

There are two things to learn from this: 1) Third Way gets to present what the Democratic Caucus plans will be because they're the ones inside the room making them; 2) Dem staffers often don't realize that they're wholly captured by this centrist consultant-industrial complex. It's fish in water.

Holy fuck. SCOTUS overturned the circuit court ruling, sending Christa Pike to her death, and then the state of Tennessee botched the execution and she’s still alive. There are no fucking words.

After SCOTUS allowed Tennessee execution to go ahead, Tennessee botched the execution
SCOTUS, over the liberals’ dissent, cleared the way for Tennessee to kill Christa Pike. The alarming order from DC was followed by even more disturbing developments in Tennessee.

“Most Americans are pro-immigrant,” Talarico says. “Throughout US history, immigrants have always made us richer and stronger.” Trump's barbarities have opened the way to a new consensus. Talarico is giving voice to it in moral language that Dems can learn from. 5/5 newrepublic.com/article/2160...

Talarico has an immigration plan that in its broad strokes is very humane and pro-immigrant. He says our border should be like a "front porch" with a "lock" and a "welcome mat." Both of those are important. The "welcome mat" in his plan deserves more attention. 4/ newrepublic.com/article/2160...

Something remarkable is happening: James Talarico is running an expansively pro-immigrant campaign in Texas, a state Trump won by 14 points, speaking in Biblical terms about our duty to "the stranger." And it's resonating. That's seismic. 1/ (new piece) newrepublic.com/article/2160...

It's bad enough global prices are still not far off their nominal ATHs, but simply put, US manufacturers cannot afford the extreme spread we're paying at home for the long haul. Something's gotta give, and we'll need a serious policy approach to deliver massive increases in new domestic supply.

From a clean energy standpoint, this is quite bad. We use a ton (technically, many tons) of the stuff in our EVs, their batteries, & solar panels. Also to build those new manufacturing plants. And it's not clear there are many good policy options on the table (other than, you know, axing tariffs).
