Is it unusual for a US Senator to be a raging asshole? Obviously not, but that doesn’t mean we should make excuses for it just because the other guy is worse. Hard to believe a lot of the #akleg #akelect people on here would be so gracious if this story was about Sullivan or Begich.

What frustrates me is that in many Dem or left of center political campaigns in AK there's this almost axiomatic belief that fundraising should go towards data & media bc that's what persuades -- while not considering that who you hire/contract & pay can persuade & build trust -- or do the opposite.

A big update to an important case: Alaska is dropping charges against a family of American Samoans it had accused of voting crimes. It should not be forgotten that Alaska inflicted enormous hardship and trauma, for years, for a simple, understandable mistake that the state itself helped facilitate.

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
Not only is this system astonishingly untested, USPS has simultaneously implemented an
impracticable zero percent failure rate.
13 When ballots are submitted to USPS in large-volume
batches, if any one ballot in the batch cannot be verified against the Portal, all ballots in that
batch will be rejected. For example, if a state election official brings a batch of 10,000 ballots to
USPS and USPS is unable to match just one of those ballots against the Portal – because, for
example, someone has recently changed their name after marriage or they’ve moved – then
USPS would refuse to mail the remaining 9,999 ballots as well. As the whistleblower notes,

I prefer Tom Begich for other reasons, but JKT is absolutely correct about taxes. If the goal is to tax the rich (it should be), you can’t get there by corporate income tax alone. Too many wealthy Alaskans own sole proprietorships or LLCs that would be missed. #akleg #akelect

#akleg So yeah. It looks like Ballot Measure 2 would repeal all the limits on gubernatorial race that 71% of Alaskans just approved.
Here's the language from Ballot Measure 1 that puts restrictions on contributions to joint campaigns for Gov and Lt. Gov.

Section 5. AS 15.13.070(g) is amended to read:

(g) Where contributions are made to a joint campaign for governor and lieutenant governor, (1) an individual may contribute not more than $4,000 each election cycle; and (2) a group may contribute not more than $8,000 each election cycle. Here's the part of ballot measure 2 that says, "AS 15.13.070(g) is repealed."
