FWIW, I think bipartisanship *doesn't* work. It shouldn't be a method or a goal, but the happy outcome of both/all parties passing good legislation. When one party is plainly a white-Christian-supremacist party, there's no virtue in getting them on board or meeting them halfway. They can pound sand.

Senate candidates in Alaska say the oil industry is good for locals. But the state's own data shows a growing number of nonresidents are the ones getting the jobs. I wrote about it in @prospect.org today.

What frustrates me is that in many Dem or left of center political campaigns in AK there's this almost axiomatic belief that fundraising should go towards data & media bc that's what persuades -- while not considering that who you hire/contract & pay can persuade & build trust -- or do the opposite.

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
Not only is this system astonishingly untested, USPS has simultaneously implemented an
impracticable zero percent failure rate.
13 When ballots are submitted to USPS in large-volume
batches, if any one ballot in the batch cannot be verified against the Portal, all ballots in that
batch will be rejected. For example, if a state election official brings a batch of 10,000 ballots to
USPS and USPS is unable to match just one of those ballots against the Portal – because, for
example, someone has recently changed their name after marriage or they’ve moved – then
USPS would refuse to mail the remaining 9,999 ballots as well. As the whistleblower notes,

The thing about progressive income taxes is the rates get higher as income gets higher. Many low income Americans pay no federal income tax because of low rates, deductions and credits. If you’re truly tapped out a well structured state income tax shouldn’t have much effect on you at all.

Brian Miller @brialxmil.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
A properly structured progressive individual income tax would capture way more revenue while holding harmless the most vulnerable among us. If Alaska ever wants to move beyond a resource extraction economy we need to have a way to fund government without relying on resource extraction taxes.

Brian Miller @brialxmil.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
I prefer Tom Begich for other reasons, but JKT is absolutely correct about taxes. If the goal is to tax the rich (it should be), you can’t get there by corporate income tax alone. Too many wealthy Alaskans own sole proprietorships or LLCs that would be missed. #akleg #akelect
