Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

China can build 55 million cars a year and buy 23 million. The 100% tariff keeps the surplus out of the US and does nothing about the fact that BYD now sets the price of an EV everywhere else. What the advantage is actually made of, what's being cut to get it, and what would close the gap:

One weird thing about energy/climate academia is how many people choose to do lots of unnecessary and harmful stuff (fly lots, eat lots of beef, drive fossil vehicles lots, etc.). I get that we need policy and system change, but also, doesn't this it undermine credibility after a point?

The people running these companies believe that climate change could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a fringe worry. Publicly, many executives soften their language to sound reasonable, but privately, the fear is real. No other industry poses this level of danger to civilization.
