I don’t think I’m ever going to get the appeal of pivoting to video for podcasts. I’ve been listening to podcasts for 20 years, and never once have I thought, my God, I need to SEE these people! I’m on a walk or doing the dishes, I don’t need video.

Hot take: I don't think social media made people dumber. We've been dumb this whole time. It's just that you used to have to have a job that people sent their dumb letters to, to notice. This made "Engaging with fools" an occupational hazard rather than the 24/7 experience it is presently.

#4 is my favorite use. It's kind of like a Super Google. Along with concept or tool, I'd add movie, book, video game, or cultural event. All those times where I'm like, "I'd know it if I heard it."

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

I'm glad we're finally outsourcing the horrible bits of life like making plans with friends so we can have more time to consume ads.

They can't win em all. This team is going to be fine. Need to start creating some turnovers and they'll start winning games by 2+ scores

Good grief, thanks to a video on Instagram, I've just discovered that the Criterion edition of Lone Wolf & Cub (that I've had on my shelf for about 9 years) has a secret compartment in the spine containing the blueprint for the weaponised babycart..!

Radiohead at Bull Run State Park outside of DC in 2001. Cancelled b/c the grounds flooded due to severe weather the night before. Drove to Charlottesville to spend a couple days there instead. Ended up living in C'ville for a decade and finally saw Radiohead in Philly in 2018. It all worked out.

Facebook directly enabled the Rohingya genocide. Every executive involved in running the company today chose to work at a company that directly enabled those deaths. Compared to that, it is _nothing_ for their products to cause your children harm. Billions for a settlement is a pittance.

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines. When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

posted this six years ago on twitter and it went viral but here’s daryl dawkins on don nelson in his memoir
I never had much to do with the other coaches in the league. I wasn't a big fan of Don Nelson's until one night when we were playing the Bucks in Milwaukee. I was squatting in front of the scorers table waiting to come into the game and Nellie happened to be standing nearby. "You know what?" Nellie asked me.
"What?"
"You guys are kicking our ass, the beer's cold in the locker room
and I gotta get the fuck out of here."
So he shouted to the nearest referee, "Hey, you fucking asshole!
That was a terrible call!" BOP! The ref gave him a technical foul, our Nellie wasn't through. "You'e still a fucking asshole and that as il a terrible call!" BOP! The second tech meant that Nellie was banished from the bench. Before he left, Nellie winked at me and said,
"See you later."

Treating a one-point lead like a sprawling chasm of security is really funny. Pack it in boys, we're up by a whole entire point against the team that keeps surmounting gigantic leads of one or even two points because it has the best player ever. What are they gonna do, score once or even twice

I disagree. I already harshly judge emails that I get that are clearly AI. The filler sentences are often the give away. I haven't directly called out a colleague yet, but they have lost some respect in my eyes.

I've found that AI has usefulness in providing insights into complex problems that have so much data and context it's difficult, or even impossible, to hold it all in your head. Making a slide deck is never this.
