QuestPit is an old established pitch event that started on Twitter. Agents definitely check out QuestPit. We are a hype event, so while we have agent followers and they do participate, we don't actively solicit them. So, QuestPit is very good for Querying authors to take part in!

My last book was inspired by the painting Dido Belle. I was lucky enough to see the original at Scone Palace. The other inspiration was the John Singer Sargent exhibition at Tate Britain and especially Doctor Pozzi. #BluePit

I draw a lot of inspiration from Tamora Pierce who I read everything from in my youth. This particular story also has inspirations from Holly Black, Rainbow Rowell, and Emily Henry, all of whom I read a lot while drafting. Also from Avatar the Last Airbender, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke

#BluePitHype I wrote a thesis project on The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon: the way she crafts fantasy into impermeable worlds that necessitate our crossing feels fundamentally queer to me. This potential of fantasy's queerness always inspires me towards my next book!

The cheater answer for ##BluePitHype is, well, everything. Most of the games I play, good or bad. Most books, too. Being in nature. The state I live in and its biodiversity. Being queer. Being disabled. Being mentally ill. It all finds place in my works.

#BluePitHype Terry Pratchett's biography. The man so clearly had ADHD, and it was just inspiring to hear the story of this career man becoming a writer. I thought for the first time "I could try being funny" and then I had a dream about a vampire gas station. 🤣 #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

It's all TSR's fault, I swear. I discovered Dungeons & Dragons at the same time as Anne McCaffrey & Ursula K. Le Guin. It gave me a terminal case of the "what if"s, as in "what if dragon lore was done with beholders instead of dragons? #BluePitHype #BluePit #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #Writers

#BluePitHype My other pen name's character wanted a sex scene. I wrote "Good Boys Don't Howl" as practice, both in rebuking the shame and celebrating my queerness. Also, a random guy muttered "Hello beautiful" under his breath seeing me once, and damn it felt good. 😅 #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Dracula was actually an inspiration for the very scifi “Unintended Designs”! The concept of being hosted in a man’s isolated domain and slowly realizing things are wrong… there are secretly others here… he’s keeping things from you… It’s great! Also, queer subtext! I’ll make it text :) #BluePitHype

#BluePitHype For when I first wanted to write? I'd say Tamora Pierce's books and The Legend of Zelda. But more currently, my inspiration came from jRPGs like the Tales series and anime like Fullmetal Alchemist and Pandora Hearts. I also think my style was heavily influenced by Fruits Basket.

Books. Lots of books. Always books. But anything can be a source of inspiration. I often find inspiration in music. While I was writing Trapped in Amber, I listened to Ludovico Einaudi on repeat; the Southern Gothic novel I’m currently writing has a long list of blues as its soundtrack. #BluePitHype

I've been writing since I was so young that what first inspired me is hard to say, but I've realized the stuff that sparks the act of writing is often not what inspires the characters or plot. So Chainsaw Man sparked Archwitch, the book I'm querying, even though the final product is more like FMA.

Inspiration for me can come from a mix of stories some brilliant and some dog shit. To at least highlight the brilliant here: Stephen Graham Jones, Anne Rice, Shirley Jackson, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Alix E Harrow to name a few. The gothic, the weird, and the unexpected have always drawn my attention.

#BluePitHype #WriteSky Will try not to go too long here! Most of my inspiration is from visual mediums, primarily games, but the earliest things were Deltora Quest (vibrant art + dark fantasy, which is a thing for me to this day) and Redwall (non-human cast). (inside you are two wolves, etc etc) 🧵
Cover art of Deltora Quest: The Shifting Sands. A bright sun beams over a desert. The title is on a lapis lazuli in the background. In the foreground is a giant locust-like insect, green with crimson stripes and several slimy orange egg sacs under its throat.Art of a vulture-dragon with pale purple skin, mottled with black splotches. A forked tongue slithers out of its arced beak, and red nodules fan out of the back of its head. A mane of red feathers is at the base of its naked neck.Art of Redwall: The Long Patrol. Rabbits and squirrels in medieval European outfits trudge up a grassy hill while a sunset colors the sky behind them in orange and purple.

I love getting to gush about all the stuff I love. My inspiration comes from a great many things. A piece of art. A paragraph. Cinema. A sense of adventure. Mythos. A gameplay mechanic. Forgotten languages. An environment design. Bastion lit the spark and Abzu and Subnautica point the way.
The inspirations chart showing films like The Meg, Jaws, Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney Atlantis, novels like Jules Verne 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, comic books like Aquaman, Fathom, X-men, games like Hades, bastion, Diablo, abzu, subnautica, dishonored 2 and the art from such things
