The "social contagion" thing drives me screaming angry. When I was young I had no clue trans ppl existed. I'd never met anyone trans. I saw cruel caricatures in pop culture occasionally. When I realized trans was a thing someone could be, it hit like a lightning bolt. My life felt newly possible.

people talk about "media literacy" usually in the context of "needing the villain to look into the camera and tell you they're bad," but it goes the other way too--people will fly into a rage and start insisting "fiction has no effect on reality" if you DO acknowledge context, subtext, framing, etc.

I always encourage people to, when they're making "best of" lists, include animated stuff in them. The point is to put animation right next to live action to normalize it. Equate them and don't section it off into its own separate list. Let them exist right next to each other.

#AwesomeCharacters At first glance, Pathi appears to be a 7-8 foot tall humanoid dragon that, sufficiently motivated, could outrun you and tear you apart. This is correct! However, he also happens to be in active war with his own body, extremely careful, and apologetic about his own existence.

I think my greatest wish for fantasy is just that the genre (marketing) doesn't entirely suffocate the genre (conversations).
