#WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity KNOWING NOTHING Ichadon leaned in. “Why would we need to represent those who are dead?” The Easterner took a long sip of the tea, shrugged a bit, pursed his lips and stared at the ground. They cause trouble if you do not manage them.
We do not have a lord anymore, not like you do. It is better that way. If our chief does not do well, we can choose another. Nobody is hurt, because the old chief just goes back to his old position and the new chief can start. He represents the living. We have seers, like you. They represent the undying, the guards. But from what I have heard, you do not have anyone to represent the dead. That is a big difference, I think.
Ichadon leaned in. “Why would we need to represent those who are dead?”
The Easterner took a long sip of the tea, shrugged a bit, pursed his lips and stared at the ground. They cause trouble if you do not manage them.
The flap of the tent shot open and the two commanders strode in. The Northern commander apologized for the delay; the Southern commander did not. The Northerner took a stool and sat to the left of the Easterner, but the Southern commander saw this and picked up his stool, moved to the side of the Northerner, and sat across from the Easterner.
What is this about performing rites?

My suggestion for Mar-a-lago is to make it a museum of American fascism. As visitors walk through, they see how racism, religious fundamentalism, wealth inequality, and media consolidation fueled a militarized nation into supporting a deranged conman, in whose house they now stand.

Lots of nations and countries in this convo. In his youth, he recalls, #FrankMatsura was uncritical about Japan's colonial ambitions. #WIPsnips #nation One month from launch date. www.dansato.com
Many of us believed that neighboring Korea was weak and would be occupied by someone, so why not Japan? It would be better if an Asian country ruled it, rather than Russia or Great Britain, both of which had interests in Korea. Europeans were carving up Asia like a roast pig. Some Asian nation had to rise to counter European power in the region and Japan was standing up to fill that role. China had its eye on Korea too. One student, Kusu, had read and become consumed by a Russian book, The Communist Manifesto. None of us had ever seen the book; it was always hidden and secure in his room. But he had learned many foreign words from it like proletariat and bourgeoisie, which he had insisted on teaching us.
“It isn’t complicated. Colonizing Korea is oppressive, no matter who does it,” Kusu said, gesturing like an orator. “If Japan wants to defend itself from European colonialism, it should support and strengthen Korea. If Asian nations banded together,” he argued, “they could collectively defend themselves and their sovereignty. If we colonized Korea, it wouldn’t be any more justifiable than the Europeans doing it, seizing a weaker country and exploiting its resources and labor for the benefit of its own wealthy class.”
A classmate pointed out that we, students at university, might be considered members of that wealthy class.

Got the report back from my developmental editor. There's a lot of work to do. Will have to crank out many new pages of tasteless and crass jokes. On the other hand, I get to have future Bach show up at the same time as past and present Bachs. It's called a "Triple Bach."

#WIPSnips KNOWING NOTHING A person can be defined by what they know, and what they don't. Ichadon knows how to transcend what he calls samsara, the filth of linear time. He knows very little else. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichadon en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonhyo en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marananta
Ichadon knew very little, but much more than most. He knew how to slip his mind into the flow of time; he knew how to free his essence from his body and glide through space. He knew how to see through a person’s eyes into their thoughts, and how to listen to the words of objects. He knew Uisang, briefly, and knew of Wonhyo, barely. He knew Marananta enough to fear him. He knew what seers called the Classics, and he knew how to read them, in part. He knew he was no older than twenty and no younger than seventeen.
Ichadon did not know what was beyond the peninsula. He did not know why the many people who once lived there in such grandeur died there so wretchedly, and why Marananta’s school continued when everything else ended. He did not know how saltwater made vehicles move, or how firearms let a man in one village kill a man in the next. He did not know his parents.

#WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts Rig -> Manipulate In response to a display of doctrinal mastery, Ichadon despairs. Wonhyo corrects him: the cosmos is beyond human comprehension. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialect... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dharma#...
“Then… is our position hopeless? We must win an argument against a master of logic, with a hidden agenda, and with some unknown person or persons acting to frustrate our efforts, even if it requires murder.”
Wonhyo took in a deep breath and expelled it forcefully from his wide nostrils. He looked up at the sky as if he wished to escape into it. Ichadon. She uses fancy words and makes obvious conclusions. That is not the same as knowing something. If anything, what she told us just now makes me think she is not as clever as I supposed. Her system of thought has indoctrinated her to believe that all things can be explained and that behind every human decision is a reason, based on some knowledge, even if flawed or misinformed. That is the weakness of this system. It assumes a world of logic, and of cause and effect. But that is not the cycle of existence. The moral of the song is entirely consistent with the teachings of the Classics: knowledge of the material world is helpless in the face of ultimate reality, which is beyond human reason. She will tell herself that her powers of deduction and logic will allow her to anticipate events and therefore manipulate them to her own advantage. But the cosmos will not allow it.
“It is still a very powerful tool though.”
Yes, Wonhyo admitted. But not as powerful as two seers in the familiarity of their own quarters. Come with me. We have a murderer to catch.

#WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts #WIPSnips KNOWING NOTHING After the End Time, a remnant Chinese faction asserts the predictive power of its system, Holistic Linear Thought. Its emissary, Qingxing, watches a pansori performance and deconstructs the political culture of the peninsula:
How would you interpret it, Wonhyo asked.
She shifted her feet from a casual sway of hips to a position of attention, and her head and eyes met Wonhyo’s squarely, as if preparing a lecture. We can deduce a few things about your culture and peoples from this story. The first is that your population is strictly divided between lower and upper classes. This is seen from the depiction of raw power laying in the dragon, and all the creatures around him living in fear and ignorance of him and his prerogatives. Second, we can tell that division between these classes is strict not only in classification (that is, there are few classes and they are clearly defined) but also in degree (by which I mean they are not just different but their interactions are limited). The animals about the dragon are ignorant of his motives and rely entirely on guesswork and speculation, and the dragon not only refuses to explain his actions, but insists that he is above logic and reasoning. That leads me to a third inference, which is that in your country, the decision-making process is deliberately opaque. And we can deduce from that fact an additional one, which is that the primary motive of leaders on the peninsula is security, which they will prioritize over rationalism. Finally, I would surmise that due to this opacity and relative compartmentalization of knowledge, the lower classes engage in superstition and rumor-mongering, since their natural curiosity cannot be satiated through empirical fact-finding and analysis.

KNOWING NOTHING

On a post-apocalyptic Korean peninsula, a few surviving settlements bicker and scheme. In the north, the Elder Kim wages his war against a remnant Chinese state, vying for land both claim to have inherited.
Ichadon, a young seer, takes his position at the Elder’s court after his predecessor went mad. He is immediately forced into an arbitration to end a war he barely understands. A supernatural entity stalks him. A key witness drops dead. Worse yet, the Chief Seer may be plotting to blame him for any failure.
He can transcend space and time. He can read a person’s thoughts and feelings. He can hear the stories of inanimate objects. He is a product of a monastery that serves as the single node of information across a broken land.
But he knows nothing.
