G'morning #WIPSnips! A teeny bit late, but the morning's been full and i had to edit this snip a bit before i could post it. Tiny bit of worldbuilding loredump, where the students explain the world that just opened up for Milly. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
“Hell is real?”
The confused silence that fills my room speaks volumes. “…yes?” Craig continues. “That’s the thing. For just about every Celestial realm, there’s a mirroring Infernal realm. With a few exceptions. They come in like a package deal. These all fall under the umbrella of the Immortal Realms, alongside full Dragons and various immortal individuals who hold immortal power by themselves.”
“Wait, dragons and half-dragons are separate?”
Galilah speaks up this time, because the subject matter is important to her. “Yes. Half-dragons or Draakkin can die of old age or severe sickness like mortals, but Dragons are functionally immortal and very powerful, but can be killed by injury. Anyway, there are other Realms as well. Father falls under the Fae realms, which include the four Courts and various unaffiliated Fae. Then there are the Realms of Undeath, with the various different types of undead falling under that.”
“Like vampires, ghouls, mummies, zombies and all of that kind of thing. Julie falls under that umbrella, for instance,” Craig comments, and Galilah shoots him a venomous glance.
“That was not your information to reveal, Selkie!” she hisses, and I see anger and defiance flash in his eyes before he calms down and holds up his hands in contrition.
“You’re right, that was my mistake.”

#WIPSnips word for October 1st is "injury" #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts Now that introductions have been made, Darach asks why Nin is on her journey. Given how no one in her village really listened to her, she is surprised he wants to hear her story.
Silhouette of an oak tree against a green background.

Text: A Sylvan Tale #WIPSnips "injury"

“Well, that is the best place to start most stories. How does this tale of bad luck begin?” Darach kept one hand gently placed at her waist while the other gently rubbed her shoulder and upper arm in a soothing manner, which was a simple gesture that made Nin feel that she mattered, and that he was willing to listen to her.

Nin began by telling Darach about her long courtship with Alan, how he was the last bachelor left in the village who was older than her, and no men in her village wanted an older bride. She then went on to explain about how her cousin in Ashular was injured, and since there was no other family who could help, Nin’s father offered Nin to help take care of him until he was able to take care of himself once more.

“That was a very noble and generous thing for you to do for family when you could have said no,” Darach praised her earnestly. “Your cousin should be appreciative that you were there for him.”

#WIPSnips "Injury" You work with the body you've got
She lifted herself off the ground, testing her new legs. She felt a twinge in the left knee, the remnant of an old injury perhaps. How exactly her bodies came pre-broken she didn’t know. It was as if they’d been living lives before she arrived in them. She took a few steps and the leg didn’t buckle. She could probably still run on it if need be. The upper body was nothing, though. Not nearly as strong as she might need. It was wracked with malnourishment, ribs jutting painfully through her new flesh. She moved her hand to her trousers but there was no bulge. That was a shame. Male bodies were often safer in bad worlds. They garnered less attention.
As Stitch had always told her, though, you made do with what you had. A starved body was a light body. Able to move more quickly than heavier opponents, able to stow itself in more and smaller hiding places. As long as it wasn’t broken too badly, as long as you could still walk, you shouldn’t complain.
The nearby buildings looked derelict, probably only inhabited by the city’s dispossessed, and Slip knew how to fit in around people like that. They might offer her a better chance of keeping hidden. After dark, if the streets were sufficiently empty, maybe she could try and get out of town.

October 1st – injury #AnthropomorphicNovel, today! This one obviously had to go to Ray. But at least the person who pushed her down the stairs is concerned! 😁 #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
I had only just placed my foot on the first stair when I felt a hand on my shoulder and a hard shove threw me off balance. I stumbled, throwing my arms up to cover my head as I rolled down the steps and slammed into the wall of the landing below, my arm resting on the fire extinguisher and the oxygen bottle at my feet.
It could have been worse, the landing was less than a dozen steps down, but this was still really going to hurt when those painkillers finished wearing off.
I groaned and looked up from the floor to see someone at the top of the steps, obscured by the smoke rapidly filling the stairwell.
“I thought I heard your voice, Rayna. What luck, running into you here.” The figure began descending the stairs.
	“redacted.”
This was just perfect. I moved to push myself up off the floor to meet her.
“I wouldn’t do that, Rayna,” redacted chided. She smiled as she showed me the gun in her right hand, now carefully trained on me. “You might have a spinal injury. You should stay very still, after a fall like that.”

He comes home long after the Reapers rise in the eastern sky, shaking the snow from his boots. When the lantern shines in the snowmelt, blood gleams there like tiny garnets.
“That’s your blood,” I say, seizing his arm. His coat is torn, the ragged edges stained red, but the insulating layer veils his injury. I tug at the opposite sleeve. “Take this off.”

Today's #WIPSnips is a scene I've posted here before, but it's a bit later in the dialogue. (Also, I've edited some since then!) In this scene, Paige is finding out vampires are real, & she isn't taking it well. Leo is upset Paige wasn't forewarned. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
A dark image with white text that reads:

     "Leo, STOP--"
She'd jumped towards him, planning to put pressure on the injury he'd just inflicted on himself. But it wasn't blood running down his arm. It was liquid silver, shimmering like the metal links of his shirt shimmered, pooling at his feet.
"Does this look like human blood to you?" He growled.
     This isn't real. This can't be real. "I don't--"
"And I can call my blood back." The silver flowed backwards, seeping back into the wound. Paige squeaked, pressing a hand over her mouth, as Leo ran a finger over the wound, sealing it up. "There, all gone. Is that a human thing to do?"
No. This is a dream. Or something else.
"You drugged me," Paige whispered. "The water, or while I was sleeping. I'm hallucinating."
"Suns, humans are so irritating," Leo grumbled. "Look, vampires are real, werewolves are real, et cetera et cetera, and they're all the same creature. And that's me. That's everyone who runs Midnight's Ball. Now can you explain to me why Liese didn't tell you this?"
Liese, why didn't you warn me?
Wait, no, it's not real. Just get out. Get the hell out.

From the opening of Always Get In a Spaceship With a Scoundrel: Anora's mentor / gang's boss gives her the hyperspace treasure maps which will set her on the path to meet Jayro, our titular scoundrel CW: sci-fi blaster violence; a close but not gory description of a chest wound #WIPSnips #WriteSky
From Always Get In a Spaceship With a Scoundrel, a sci-fi romance by Ellie Rhymer

Anora half-stumbled, half-crawled in her haste to get to the man, his pallor alarming. His signature purple suit made him look washed out, features seeming to sink into his gray mane of wiry hair and beard. She’d known him more than twenty cycles — lived with him since she was four — and had never thought of him as an old man before, but he suddenly looked ancient and aged to her, laying there on the rough carpet of his office.

Joe coughed and pushed weakly at Anora’s searching hands as she checked him for injuries with clumsy, disoriented fingers.

“Easy kid,” he groaned. “You’re gonna…hasten me to the…Maker.” His words were interrupted with rattling gasps.

Anora cried out when she found the blaster hole in his torso, shocked he was still alive at all. The blast was a disabling shot. It would have collapsed his left lung at least, and probably nicked his heart as well in preparation for the execution shot to the head. “Maker be damned!” Anora hissed. “I’m going to hasten you to a medic. Now!”

“Nothin’ that overchargin’ stitch can do for me tonight.” Joe coughed again. His lips were turning blue. “No medics. I’m meetin’ the Maker an’ that’s that. Take this,” he said over her protests, pressing a portable data block into her hand, “to the…Helle Wanderer. South starfields. Tell the captain…we were hit tonight.”

#HorrorWritersChat I don't use real music since I can't afford to pay a royalty fee. I've referred to musical styles but not specific songs or artists. That said, my short story DREADFUL DISSONANCE includes blasphemous musical instruments that pitch so high only a select few can hear the music.

#HorrorWritersChat A2: Music doesn't play a significant part in the work I've written so far. It has only a background presence in my current WIP. However, it will become more prominent in the next book, & extremely important in book 4. #WriteSky

#HorrorWritersChat Question Two: “Big black shape with eyes of fire Telling people their desire…” Does music play a part in your horror writing, and if so, how do you use it in the story?

#HorrorWritersChat I'm your EmC, James Ryan, writer who's all over the place. As is my music: Lots of rock, plenty of jazz, classical (especially Vivaldi while wrighting), and willing to listen to just about everything offered.

Greetings #HorrorWritersChat I’m Mary, writer of cosmic, gothic, and weird horror. I love rock and metal. My favourite musician is Ville Valo (VV). Speaking of Lestat’s play list, my fave track on AMC’s The Vampire Lestat album - The Failures - is “Brutal Love” 🖤

Hey. I'm Anna. I write eco-horror and cosmic horror. I think I tend to go towards the acoustic/blues/folk end of the spectrum. But I'm perfectly happy to sit in a classical concert. I've got a horrid habit of listening to certain songs until I kind of break them in my own head. #HorrorWritersChat
