/4 SCOTUS has lost the presumption of regularity -- the mandate of the legal heavens -- through its shadow docket actions, which by invoking SCOTUS' equitable discretionary powers have obliterated the pretext that SCOTUS is merely calling balls and strikes, merely calling lines where they see them.

Preach, @actioncookbook.com. Needed this this morning. actioncookbook.substack.com/p/america-be...
These people, the gleeful goons, the giddy race scientists, the cheerleaders of misery, the
"America for Americans only" demagogues — they don't believe in this country.

They never have, no matter how brazenly they'll wrap themselves in the flag to justify their actions. The country they believe is small and cruel. It's a country where secret police demand to see papers, where neighbors turn on neighbors, where the state is the enemy of the people rather than the embodiment of their collective will. It's a place governed by fear and by hate, but even more so by doubt-doubt that any country could possibly be big enough to contain multitudes. Doubt that any country could be strong enough to take the unrealized dreams of the rest of the world and make them possible. Doubt that any country could be resilient enough to face hardship head-on and keep marching toward those ideals put to parchment by imperfect men two and a half centuries ago. They don't believe in America, and no matter how tightly they grip the reins of government right now, America doesn't belong to them. It belongs to the people who do believe in it, whether they came over on the Mayflower or through Ellis Island, in business class or on foot, "the right way" or not. Heck, maybe they were here long before anyone who looked like me showed up. It belongs to people who believe in those ideals that we've strove towards but never quite lived up to, people who believe that we should keep striving anyways because that arc of the universe isn't going to bend itself. It belongs to people willing to do the work, willing to stand up for their communities, and willing to take to their streets to stand up for those unmet ideals. It belongs to people who can still see the promise of this place in their mind and want more than anything to be a part of it, even if they have to cross an ocean or a desert to do so.

NEW: Alito issues his dissent, complaining, "Shortly after midnight yesterday, the Court hastily and prematurely granted unprecedented emergency relief." He then gives a bullet-point list of his opposition. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p... Law Dork background: www.lawdork.com/p/supreme-co...
SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES
No. 24A1007
A.A.R.P., ET AL. V. DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, ET AL.
ON APPLICATION FOR INJUNCTION
[April 19, 2025]
JUSTICE ALITO, with whom JUSTICE THOMAS joins, dis-senting.
Shortly after midnight yesterday, the Court hastily and prematurely granted unprecedented emergency relief. Proceeding under the All Writs Act, 28 U.S. C. $1651, the Court ordered "[t]he Government" not to remove a "putative class of detainees" until this Court issues a superseding or-der. 604 U.S. _ (2025). Although the order does not define the "putative class," it appears that the Court means all members of the class that the habeas petitioners sought to have certified, namely, "[a]ll noncitizens in custody in the Northern District of Texas who were, are, or will be subject to the March 2025 Presidential Proclamation entitled Invocation of the Alien Enemies Act Regarding the Invasion of the United States by Tren De Aragua' and/or its imple-mentation."* Motion for Class Certification in No. 1:25-cv-59 (ND Tex., Apr. 16, 2025), ECF Doc. 3, p. 1. And although the Court does not specify what it means by "[t]he Govern-ment," it appears that the term is intended to embrace all the named defendants, including the President. Cf. Fed.
Rule Civ. Proc. 65(d)(2).

i am begging local news to do three seconds of journalism or at least use google so you can avoid things like letting a founder (left) take free shots at the homeless to hide a move they’ve been planning for two years (right)
This week @INRIX signed a lease which will move us out of Kirkland which has been our home for the past 18 years.
Why? @KirklandGov made a decision to put a homeless hotel right across the street from our current HQ, in the backyard of #EastsidePrep and next door to @Burgermaster. No drug testing required, no treatment required and no real supervision on-site. Where this experiment has happened before in King County, crime rates have risen since according to reliable data, 70%+ of homelessness is the result of drug addiction and/or mental health issues (@choeshow,
@DiscoveryInst1).
When I attended the City Council meeting to speak out on this issue, @KirklandGov refused to let anyone speak.
A previous mayor once told me years ago that
INRIX was the 5th largest employer in @Kirkland.
I have no idea what we are now (we've grown), but bad public policy has consequences.
Employers can move. We are. If a local government won't listen to it's citizens and/or employers, they will probably find other places to locate.About 100 of Inrix's 350 employees are based in Kirkland. The company doesn't have a specific target for its headcount a year from now, but it's hiring, Mistele said.
Inrix's office is at the Plaza Yarrow Bay campus, near where Lake Washington Boulevard Northeast crosses over state Route 520. The company works in-office four days a week.
Mistele said Inrix will look into new office options once the company's lease is up in a year. He added that many of the restaurants near its office closed during Covid, and the company would like employees to have places to eat nearby. It's targeting the Eastside, looking at locations in Bellevue and Kirkland.

my armchair psychological diagnosis is that the drive to accumulate as much wealth as possible eats away at the drive for self-improvement or the internal desire to cultivate any skills or tastes. these people build huge mounds of treasure and then essentially just sit around looking at it, empty.
