one big problem with the LLM hacks and cybersecurity is that there are a lot of soft targets out there certainly they’re going to find new 0days but a lot of systems run on outdated shit and have gotten away with it because nobody bothered to poke at them poking at them will get a lot easier soon

this city shows the best of itself when somebody needs help on the train. girl gets on with her husband and starts to collapse from the heat on the platform, boom, six people are jumping in to grab her, somebody else is putting a juice box in her hand, two others jump up so she can have a seat

Sorry to be a hater but the fact you need to wake up super early on a Sunday (and pay a fee) to enjoy a car-free DLSD is a sick joke. If you get there at 9, you have 90 minutes before rolling closures begin. G-d forbid drivers are inconvenienced. ATA has been content with scraps for 25 years.

Was walking past this building and through the window saw this backrooms-ass room, so I accidentally took the coolest picture ever due to the window's reflection

A backrooms-ass room with a twilight sky and trees seemingly imposed over it in a dream-like fashion (it's the reflection of the window)

Bluesky should go back to invites, continue aggressive bot bans, create a Craigslist-style marketplace (since you’re more likely to buy/get services from a educated or good person on here than any other social network), and market this place like a walled garden protected from enshittification.

New study shows gun violence increased near schools that were closed in the 2013 school closures in Chicago, seemingly specifically associated with building vacancy www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

School closure was associated with a 9.88% increase in shootings near the school location (95% CI: 3.59-16.99; p = 0.001). Long term building vacancy was associated with a 10.20% increase in shootings near the building location (95% CI, 2.73-18.84, p = 0.005). Secondary outcomes of assaults/battery with a firearm and weapons violations also demonstrated significant increases. These results demonstrate that school building vacancy following closure is associated with an increase in shootings in the surrounding neighborhood. In decisions around school closure, policymakers should consider the multifactorial impacts of closure on communities and potential community-driven productive re-use of space, particularly given closure frequently occurs in already-disinvested neighborhoods.
